home schooling my TBI son

Hi everyone. I am new to this site. I am a single mom of two boys. My oldest is recovering from a Severe Traumatic Brain Injury. He will not be able to attend school. In addition to all the therapy he is receiving, he needs a tutor and a teacher. I was thinking of home schooling him. Changes are difficult and I do not want him to fall behind. Any advise?

thanks amy... at the moment he can only do 1 hour a week. The school is helping... thank goodness. He does have OT and now we will have a tutor and speech pathologist as well.

I'd suggest working in conjunction with the school. If you home school 100%, the school does not need to provide any therapy services which may really benefit him greatly. If you have him go to school 25 or 50% though, 1 day or 2 days a week or half days every day, he can receive that therapy, you can get work at his appropriate level from the teachers to work with him at home, and he would benefit from a variety of teaching methods. He'd also get the benefit of 1:1 with you and a tutor at home, and still get the social experiences he should have.
