Hello my name is Bonnie. I have a handson almost 17 month old son with Down Syndrome. He fills our lives with so much love and joy. He is truely a miracle and a blessing to our family. You are in for so much love and joy from your precious lil girl.
Andrew was also born with 2 congenital heart defects, TOF & AV Canal defects, both are now repaired and he is doing great. At 8 days old we found out that he was also born with Duodenal Atresia wich could have killed him if I didnt keep a diary of his feedings. He had surgery for that at 9 days and is doing great. I wish you well and enjoy her for GOD blessed you with such a precious gift.

Hang in there. I remember our first year was in and out of the hospital. Our daughter had 5 surgeries. Once the health issues are under control you can concentrate more on therapies. It really does get better. You will celebrate every milestone. Our daughter is now 5 years old and doing very well. She can wrestle her 11 year old brother down to the ground like she is one of the boys. Very funny to watch. They are a blessing!

Hello! I have a 16 yo daughter that we adopted from Korea when she was almost 5yo. I have to say, in spite of the challenges, she's the easiest to raise out of our four kids! We are in the process of adopting another child w/DS. I wouldn't change a thing. Blessings,
Kelsey

Hi Shelly! My 4 year old daughter, Darby, was born with DS. It was a complete surprise and I agree with Kelly there are tears of joy and sadness but do not be afraid to cry and ask for help when you need it! Those of us that are a little further ahead in the journey are always willing to talk and share!

What a beautiful child. You will have challenges from which you will learn so many things about yourself and the true meaning of life. Your blessings will be more than you can count, as will your tears. God will be with you through anything you may go through. When you feel like you are, you are NEVER alone. Put God first in everything. He sees all and knows that you can handle it, because He will be there. My son has special needs. He is 25 now and remains the biggest blessing from God in my life. If you haven't already...ask God to take control of everything, ask for wisdom...He will give it...I know!....Shirley E

hello! my little guy Jackson is 27m and has down syndrome. hes such a good boy and a joy to us. our tough time right now is with biting, our pt thinks its a sensory issue. jack has hearing loss due to canal stenosis (narrowing) and is waiting for his baha hearing device to come in.
we have been lucky with his health, just the hearing loss and reflux so far.
any different suggestions for biting?
i also have four other kids, 21, 20, 5 and 13m and never dealt with this biting issue before:)

She is beautiful! I have a son with Downs. His name is Matthew. He is 24 years old.He gives our family so much love. When he was 6 months old we put him in a walker. This helped stengthen his legs. He wanted t walk so bad.He was delayed ,as most Downs kids are. Don't get discouraged, things will come a little slower than you expect them to.Remember this, if nothing else,God gives special children to extra special parents. You are going to get so much love fom this beautiful child,I promise. If I can ever help, let me know. Cindy Richardson

Hi, I have a five month old daughter, Annaliese with down syndrome. I'm glad to say she is fully recovered from heart surgery, that she had eight weeks ago. They are little fighters. She starts back to therapy this week. I can't wait to she how far she has come. I hope your daughter got out of the hospital. Great people at Childrens Hospital, that's where Annaliese had her surgery.

I have twin boys that just turned 2 on June 7th. Both of them have DS. It is not what you are expecting....they are a miracle and you will see how much blessing your daughter will be to your life. Keep talking to people and join a local support group in your town. I am in Texarkana, Arkansas and we have a great group here. It is small, but all of our children are under 3 so we help each other out with questions and advise a lot. Your daughter will be completely normal, just a few months behind on development and it is something you will just get used to and you will be so excited when she reaches new goals! Make sure you get her into therapy as soon as you can. It is really beneficial in the long run. We have a school here that my boys go to...they are the only DS kids in their class and are doing great. They get therapy (speech, occupational, and physical) twice weekly while there along with developmental teaching all day long. Also, look into a vitamin called Nutrivene by International Nutrition. It is specially formualted for DS and has great benefits. Mine have been on it since they were six months old.

Anyway, good luck! You have a special angel!

I have a 10 year old daughter, Taylor, who has downs. Would love to share and talk with anyone else who is so lucky to have one of these little angels in their lives. Some days are certainly a struggle but those days are far out numbered by the joyous ones. Being able to talk to other moms who are experiencing the same things is a wonderful opportunity to have (something I wish I'd had 10 years ago!).

I am so in love with my daughter, she was born 8 weeks early. She was in the NICU for 7 weeks. Home for 2 weeks! Ended up getting pneumonia and went to the ER with respiratory distress last week. She was mediflighted to Children's Hospital to the PICU. We are now in a regular room anticipating to go home tomorrow pending her echo results.

The doctors tell me that I will have to give my daughter a shot 3 times a week in order to get her red blood cells in check. Kinda scared of that. This road we are taking scares the heck out of me. She has a G-tube inserted cause she cant take a bottle yet. It sure is a rocky start with our new baby girl, however, she is a real fighter! I am really not sure what we are in store for and it scares me. We have been in the hospital so much!

I would like first to say congratulations on the birth of your daughter. She will bring you tears of joy and sadness. I have a son who is 3.5 years with Downs Syndrome, and although I love him to bits as he gives me laughter, sorrow, and enjoyment this road you are starting on is going to be a hard road for you and your family, it will be worth every inch you have and when you come to the end it will be all worth the journey. But don't be afraid to cry, talk and smile along the way. If you need more info visit www.upsideofdown.co.nz This a a site for people with special needs children and there is loads of Downs syndrome families there too.
The best thing you can do is to love her with all you heart, she is going to need her family for her whole life.
Take Care Kelly

My husband and I adopted a baby with DS 3 years ago. She is the joy of our lives. We were told by another parent of a DS child "It's not yhe path we planned to travel, but it's been a wonderful path." Your daughter is a perfect spirit from your Heavenly Father and he has entrusted her to you. You must be very special people.
