Johns Hopkins Neurosurgery is the best! Dr. Jallo did a amazing job on my son..and they have Dr. Carson whos famous! and another guy...but its so amazing there the surgeons are incrredible! while your child is in the OR they call you with updates and say you want to grab a bite to eat the receptionist in the waiting room will take ur cell # and call you withe updates...it is so releaving and makes it so easy to get through!

I have (2) daughters with MMA, a genetic disease. My children would not be alive today if it wasn't for the network of physicians at Hopkins. We live in Baltimore, and will stay here close to Hopkins even though we'd love to move away. The Genetics department at Hopkins is the absolute BEST! I am sure appointment times are months from now, so if you are considering it, go online, and make a new patient appointment now. It's easier to cancel then wait longer.

YES!!! My son had his first neurosurgery at JHUH when he was 22 days old. Dr. Ben Carson, one of the most outstanding pediatric neurosurgeons in the world, put in a V/P shunt to correct congenital hydrocephalus. He later redid the shunt and then, in concert with plastic surgeon Dr. Vander Kolk, performed an anterior craniotomy and reconstruction to correct the fact that my son's lateral soft spots had closed too early and were causing his head to grow into the shape of a football. We also did a stint in the PICU when my son turned croup into bacterial tracheitis, and it's JHU's Kennedy-Krieger Child Development Center that first diagnosed my son's PDD/Autism. Everyone we have worked with there has been top notch, and I could not recommend them more strongly.

I would highly recommend Johns Hopkins. I currently live in Maryland and have been taking my son there. You mightGood luck! look into the Craniofacial team there in Baltimore. They have a team of Drs. (specialists) they can eval your son in one day. You stay in one room and a specialist in every specialty can see your records/refer you to a physician and come up with a plan. They have phenomenal Drs.! They also take most insurances.

Yes, during the last year it's been nuts. I've taken him to three different locations for neuro-psych evals. The first one was over 5 hours away and the night before we had to be there at 8 am our area got slammed with a terrible snowstorm. yuck. He's also had three sleep studies done since last December and had his tonsils and adenoids removed. That's on top of weekly appointments with therapists and monthly appointments with his psychologist.

Thanks Lisa for your response! I currently take Mason to Cleveland Clinic....it's about 3 hour drive from us.........I am just in the beginning stages of looking for a new medical center for a 3rd opinion......I know what you mean in regards to the expense for traveling......I added up what I paid out of pocket last year for Mason's medical and travel and I almost had a heart attack!!!! :)

I wish! I do have tons of experience with the Mayo though. My son's doctor has a dream of him being evaluated at John's Hopkins, but since he receives medical assistance there are miles of red tape to get through and then trying to find money for transportation to get there and back as well as money for while we're there. I don't think it's going to happen, but I don't really know what they'd come up with that we haven't already. I do wish he could take part in some of the studies they do there though.
