Hello all! So here is our story. I have a 4 yo lil girl who has a speech delay to start out with. She is right now at about a 24 month old speech level. She does attend pre-school and Speech therapy 2 times a week. The hyper activity is a whole other issue, i just cant keep up with the girl. Im no sure if its just her being 4? or something else. She has been tested for all sorts of things including autism, and no answers. So I was just wondering if anyone has a child with similar issues, or knows someone that is. Thank you all! Take care! ~Kristen~

Hey everyone, My son is 11 now and we started speech therapy when he was 3 and then when he entered school he was tested and we told he has Mild Intellectual Disabilty and ADD. We did not put him on any meds until he was in grade two ( found teachers just wanted him to be quiet) We got a great grade two teacher and started him on meds for the ADD and what a difference it has made in him WOW he still has lot of dfficulties in school (but no behavioural which I was afraid of) The best piece of advise I ever received was don't believe EVERYTHING the Dr's tell you you are her mom and know her the best. Always follow that and you and your daughter will do fine. (And lots of Love of course)

Sorry to hear about your challenges! Have they put a name on the speech delay? I have a son with speech apraxia (which some doctors, therapists and teachers still won't recognize as a diagnosis), and he has been challenging too. Because it's a delay in processing information, it does affect behavior sometimes. I guess I'd be tempted to just hang in there and assume it's only a stage and/or part of being 4 years old. I think around 6 or 7 kids starts seeing toning down the silliness so that they fit in better with peers, especially in an elementary school setting where there are older kids. I can hardly remember that stage; my son is about to turn 19! Good luck with the speech therapy and be sure practice a lot...it's worth the effort.  Mary

OMG I thought I was all alone. My son also has a delay in speech. Hes 3 1/2 and on a 2yo level. He sees a speech therapist once a week for 45 minutes. Hes a bit hyperactive but not too bad where im concerned. He just get really frustrated and screams and throws fits. He's going to start occupational therapy on the 16th his speech therapist thinks he will benefit from it. He will also start daycare and be around kids his own age. Hes great at repeating what you say its just him using words to communicate we are working on. I stressed about it at first but then I talked to God and asked him for guidance. So we are working on my lil man. All in all he's perfect to me and I know you other moms feel the same way about your children. No one said it would be easy huh

My 3 year old son has a speech delay.  He was diagnosed with speech apraxia like Mary's son was.  He is also very hyper and all over the place.  I have not persued anything with respect to his behavior yet because I am hopefull that in the next 2 to 3 years he will tone down some and outgrow some of it.

It is hard though to have such a wild one since I also have a child who is younger and delayed in her gross motor development.  She wants to be into everything with him but he just steam rolls her 4 to 5 times a day because he doesn't relize she is there.

i know how you feel my son is the same as your daughter. he has a servere speech disorder and im possitive he has adhd but doctor's wont admit it to me. he was diagnoised with global delay disorder but i think it's more on the autism side of it . i feel for you. It can be hard some times.
