im new to this site... my daughter had scoliosis...she's 10. i just read your comment which was awhile ago... how is your child doing now? did she/he have surgery yet?

My 8 year old daughter has scoliosis. She doesn't complain about pain much. She has thoracic spine as well.

I so thankful for all of your replies, thank you so much, sometimes i feel my child is the only one going thru this but i know shes not. anisa is 7 yrs old and she will need spine surgery, I'm so terrified about it but i know it will help her, shes doing very well and such a blessing in my life and my family as well. thanks again everyone, i would love to here every response

Hi. I have a 19 yr old child with multiple disabilities, but I'm the one with scoliosis. I've had 3 major surgeries (the most recent 2 were in 2005) and am fused from T4-S1. My family knew I had this condition as a child ~1970, but I only got treatment in my adult life. I'd be glad to tell you what I've experienced & know about the condition, if you'd like. My primary focus is to keep my abs & back (multifidus) muscles strong to support my spine. I hope I can lend you support, Vera!

My son Thomas had scoliolis and had the operation to correct it, he was always in pain and layed down on the floor to relieve the pain , after the operation he was so much better but sadly my son died aged 17yrs last october

hi Vera,

I have scoliosis. I had surgery to 'straighten' my spine when i was 12 (now 42). Mine was severe in that i have a sideways S curve in my back and a small 5 degree side curve in my neck. I have more issues now with my neck then my back but I can deffinately tell when the storms are comin....How old is your child? You might try soaking in warm/hot water with epsom salts to relax the muscles. massage works also. I was told to NEVER use a chyropracter tho since i had the surgery.

Hi Vera, I just joined this group. I have lived with scoliosis diagnosed when age 11 (now 42). Had surgery when I was 12. How old is your child and how severe is the curve? I just had to learn to live with mine. Its not so bad and as a kid I never really noticed it actually. Guess I don't know what its like to have a normal back lol.

I too have scoliosis and mines was so bad that it was hard for me to breath. I couldn't walk for long distances my back would hurt. It took a long time to get comfortable in the bed. My mom bought me a orthopedic mattress. because the curve was so bad, at the age of 15 my orthopedic doctor suggested a spinal fusion.

I know how ur child feels. I am a mother of 5 and have the same disorder. It is hard to get comfortable. No matter what you do remember that she loves the effort that you put into getting her comfortable..A few suggestions would be a warm bath to lay in for a few minutes...a light massage on her spine. and around for a few minutes to make her relax as much as possible..If worst comes to worse and she cannot get comfortable at all is physitheropy. They could also help in doing some easy excersises for her.
