You should also talk to whoever is in charge of the school district. ask what kind of services they offer...could he function in a class with help??? or does he need a special class...do they provide educational testing...special placements for children with Autism??? Think of all the questions you want to ask..and have a pen and paper ready to write things down> I used to keep a note who of who I talked to and why, phone numbers, and what they said. It was very helpful when searching for services, and finding the right program for my son. Become your own resource and turn over every rock and look in every nook and cranny!!!! It is also helpful to ask for copies of things like test results diagnosis and such, so that when something comes up you can say" I have a copy right here" and no one can deny services!

no , i believe there is no laws like that , the school referered him to a specialist place for kids with learnig differculties and i actually just thought he was hyperactive and then the doc said he was autistic , they wouldnt give me a level of his autism , but just saud he was borderline , which , i thought was a bit strange as i never heard of it to , but have asked about this and they said there is as they cant put a level to him , if that makes any sense , but i also asked them what happens next and they just said we,ll see him when he hit secondary school , which i got very angry as i thought what was the hole point of it all , nothing to help me but a stuiped book that had a little information about autism , but i,m going to make an appointment again to see a special needs teacher , to see if she can get the ball moving

Do you have special education laws...here the school system is REQUIRED to provide for ANY one with a diagnosis the affects learning ability to be ADDRESSED IN THE SCHOOL system. The diagnosis could be anything from non specific developmental delay to severe cases of MR Or CP and That includes Behavior Disorders! How did you have him diagnosed??? that doctor should givr you a statement for treatment...or he needs to be reassessed with a proper identification to address his needs! ( I have never heard of Borderline Autism..)

school dont wanna no really ,as he is borderline , they think hes like a normal child , even wen i explain to them about him , goes in 1 ear and out the other ,plenty of other kids in school with autism and they get the help ,, but seems like , i,m fighting a losing battle with them . in south london , in lambeth which is proberly the worst borough to ask for any help . going to try the national autism society and see wat they say

Is there a children's hospital in your area?? If so you could start there for resources. look for a behavioral specialist who can do an applied behavior analysis. Have you tried a behavior modification program with consequences and rewards// a behavior specialist can help you develop one...Also the school should be doing more, but they are not always equipped with the right training for autism, but they should be up on handling children with behavior problems. You have to make them write a PROGRAM for him..If he is in a special education class have an IEP meeting and request additional resources from your community..In my experience the schools do as little as they can....YOU have to push for services for your son, and he has to right to have the proper services applied to his needs!!! What area do you live maybe the National Autism Society can help with location of services..

Depends on what actions he takes for self-injury. Do you have access to therapeutics...home care, O.T ??? We had to put my son in a helmet (he hated it) for a while to stop head -bagging. You need to find what works for his unique situation!!! Each individual is different. If one thing doesn't work; you need to be willing to try something else with out giving up!!!! Hang in there!
