Hey everyone. My son was diagnosed last yr with ADHD and ODD. We put him on vyvanse and he's been doing fine in and out of school, but his personality is so dull. I just saw a new doctor as we just moved from GA to NC, and he is wanting to put my son on intuniv. I was wondering if any mom's out there have their children on intuniv, is so how is it working for him/her?

Pheobe, my son has ADHD, ODD, mild SPD, and PDD-NOS. he is 4 and on meds, he has been taking melaton for 2 yrs now (adhd med for 3m) he still doesnt sleep through the night though he wakes up 2x instead of 8. Did your son have probs premed sleeping? We have not slept a full night in 4yrs and would really like to after hearing how others have trouble sleeping w/meds I am worried he will never sleep all night. As he is already on melatonin I dont know what else--I dont want to give him a sleeping pill.

Hey Bella, I thought about getting my son on abilify, but the way i describe aiden to doc is in their eyes that he's a happy kid, and good one, just always on the go! Lol it drives me crazy! He's been on intuniv for a couple weeks now and i've seen some difference. I really liked the vyvanse but it made him very dull! Now i see him focusing a little better, but not completely, which i know it's been the summer and i've been slacking on giving him "homework" but school starts tomorrow and i informed his teacher of his disorders, and she agreed to keep me updated as much as possible. I think i'll have more of an idea if the meds are working for him by what his teacher tells me. the last few days i've been pretty snippy with him because he will just come out of no where and scream real loud and then thats it... We could be watching t.v and he'll just "AH" real quick and loud. He goes to see a counselor next month to attempt to get more help so i'll definitely be updating!

We have 2 children with ADHD & ODD. We prefer ABILIFY> They are far from dulled, and the side effects are less. They DO need something in addition for FOCUS during school, like Concerta or Strattera. I agree, it is difficult to have a child with special needs, never the less lose them to their meds which we know they will stop taking the minute they are independent! Always here~ Bella

Thank you EVERYONE for the posts.. I read every single one and you have no idea how it's helped. The new doctor we have here has been very very great!! He talked to me about the possible side affects of intuniv and so far Aiden hasn't shown any side affects. The only thing I am noticing is that he is eating more than he ever has. I'm wondering if it's just a growth spurt.. but it's just convienant that he's been eating non stop since starting the meds. He is on 3 mg intuniv as of now... We go back every week to report back to see his progress and the possibility of uping the dose. But I think 3 mg is good, he has his personality back which I am sooo excited about!! He listen's so good, he is respectful, he doesn't wake me up at 0 dark 30 screaming and chasing our dog up and down the house! Otillua you asked where I got him diagnosed at, well we we're living in GA at the time and a psychologist there did the testing on him and finally after 3 months of testing she diagnosed him.. I do believe Aiden has bi polar disorder though!! I could be wrong but he possess's all the traits of someone with bi polar disorder, but it has calmed down since being on the meds.

hi i have a 6 year old son that has been diaognosed with severe ADHD, Terrets, and ODD. He was diagonosed at the age of 4 but has been on medications since he was a year old. One of the medications that he takes is intuniv, but he also take two different kinds of adderall and resperdal. He takes 3mg of intuniv and it seems to work very well. The specialist he sees in Ashville every 4 months put him on it and i'm actually glad with the way it works. He has tried the vyvanse that your son is on but it never worked for him. Out of all the medications that he has tried and been on since he was a year old, intuniv has been the best one that he's been on. Well I hope this could help some.

Both of my children have severe ADHD and my youngest has ODD. They take melatonin to sleep at night, and they both have ADHD meds. My son takes strattera (25mg in the morning and 18mg at noon), The ADHD specialist tried to have him take intuniv for his anxiety, but it made him worse. My daughter is another story, because she also has seizures. She takes trileptal for the seizures, intuniv for her anxiety (2mg at dinner time) and she was on focalin XR for the ADHD...now, with the intuniv, she does not need the focalin and her temper and mood are even throughout the day. We have had to learn to pick our battles...and to offer choices instead of telling her what to do (we choose the options and she picks one).

My stepson also has ADHD and ODD. The Vyvanse is the only thing that works for him. We tried him on the Intuniv and you couldn't tell any difference; it didn't work at all!

My daughter was on intuniv for over a year and put on over 60lbs on it. She would also still have very explosive outburst, but she has ADHA and ODD as well as Borderline Personality Disorder, Severe Bipolar II disorder, manic depressive, OCD and anxiety disorder. Medicines work different on everyone, so do some research. The doc that put my daughter on this said she would not gain weight on it, but if you read the fine print on the sample box or the side effects online, it states otherwise. Always ask questions and be well informed. My daughter is now 18 and it has been a long hard struggle and we still struggle everyday. Good luck! We are also in NC.

HI, my son has sever adhd, odd. He's been on the intuniv for about a year or so...At least I think it's been about a year...it's been a long one...Lots of issues going on around here and all. Well my son has done great with it. We just actually upped it to 3mgs and he does great. We are trying to up that and then lower his risperdale, but have a hard time lowering that one. He has had no problems on it and no issues that he's telling me. He has alot more issues other than his adhd, odd, but I think or hope that if he was thinking something was going on he would tell me, but hasn't. He's done great with it. He's on the same thing your son is on. He takes vyvanse 50mgs, risperdal 0.5mgs 1pill 2x's a day and then the intuniv 3mgs...We worked our way up to that...When he started the intuniv we worked our way up. He started with the 1mg and was on that for a bit and then went up to the 2mg and was on that for a bit and then went to the 3mgs, but he was always tired and didn't want to do his work in school and the teacher was having a hard time with that...So we lowered him back down to the 2mgs and he did well with this. We just upped his intuniv again to the 3mgs and he's doing alot better. Now we just have to work on that risperdale, but everytime we do that we have issues. Well I hope this helps a little..anytime you have answers ask away...
