My dd will be having a Neurophsych. evaluation when she turns 5 in the next month. We have seen 2 Neurologists and 1 Neurodevelopmental Ped. and she continues to be diagnosed with only a Developmental Delay. She has been receiving PT, OT and SP services for 2 years - both privately and through her PSD program and has now developed impulsivity, behaviors (attn. seeking) in school and she demonstrates inconsistent skills from one day to the next. I have always felt that she has SPD but she has had motor coordination delays in all areas (language, fine motor, and gross motor). She has made considerable progress in most areas, but the inconsisencies challenge me. I believe she is additionally struggling with Auditory Processing.

Just wondering if anyone has had similar challenges with their child's development. Autism has been ruled out as she can be highly sociable. I am concerned about her diet, as we do notice her behaviors alter but allergy testing has come up empty. It may be the food sensitivities - something to look into.

Any input would be great. Happy to find additional support from moms.

update:

My daughter now 7.5 yrs old had her 3yr language evaluation for school last yr. After receiving the paperwork from the ARD the speech pathologist reported she showed dyslexic characteristics (not mentioned in the ARD) due to some of her scores in some areas. After yrs of battling and finally finding an advocate to help me speek out to the schools, my daughter finally got tested, after a 2nd ARD was conducted, through the educational psycologist, then those results taken to a private psycologist with the end result as having visual-perceptual dyslexia. Sorry ladies but I had to give some kind of an update. Dyspraxia can affect so much. If never mentioned before she does have the developmental dyspraxia, articulation disorder, language disorder, anxiety, and spd atop of the dyslexia. She has overcome so much in her surroundings. I still have to buy shoes with velcrow, elastic waistband pants, and label her shoes, but that is a far cry from years ago. Fidget boxes help as well. Take care all.

Update: My daughter has seen an pediatric optomotrist see if she is dyslexic. However, I was told that she can't be tested 'til she is 8 yrs old for dyslexia for I've been told that at her age that its typical for children to still invert letters until 8.

Also, she will be returning to private OT during the summer time. Keep it up.

Also, have you requested any of her evaluation reports, testing results, etc. over the last few years from all of the therapists and/or drs she has seen? I ask this because after the therepy place that my oldest son and daughter were going to shut down on me, and the SLP at the school stated that its more in her opinion than a developmental delay, I requested all the paperwork of notes and evaluations. After looking over, I realized that the thereapist knew more than what they were telling me. I took my concerns to the pediatrician, and my journey began. If you have paperwork for the specialist to look over and for you to examine and get more information on to research, then you have more ground to stand on. For all three of my children I have a medical file for each one containing all testing reports I can get my hands on. Best of luck and God bless.

I have twin girls, diagnosed with developmental delay/speech delay/sensory/anxiety, at the age of 2. They have been, since then, early intervention, Speech therapist, O.T., Psychologist, Neuropsychologist, Neurologists, Genetic doctors, all baffled, everything coming up negative. My girls are soon to be 7 years old, making progress, but the same inconsistent with learning. They have been ruled out of autism because they are highly sociable. No gene diagnoses and has been tests for everything under the sun. They are even going back to the genetisis in June '12. I know it is very concerning for me as well. All we can do is love them and teach them the best way we can. My girls are so sweet and smart, their struggle is with school because they are very visual learners and can hear fine, but don't use auditory processing for learning, they use their sight. Trying to get this into their I.E.Ps is very hard they way teachers have to teach for the government now. Just hang in their. I am glad to see I am not the only one, I though I was alone.

Jami..I understand where your coming from. My 6.5yr old daughter was developmentally delayed and has been seen with private ST,OT,PT since the age of 2yrs old. At first I thought nothing of it because her older brother, now 8, was also developmentally delayed at the time and was diagnosed at the time she was last yr with developmental dyspraxia and other impairments. She has had tests done by many SLPs, OTs, and PTs and she too has a team of Pediatric developmental speicialists as well. She was diagnosed with SPD, Anxiety, Developmental Dyspraxia, and Speech & Language Disorders as well and Allergies. She too may Dyslexic but she we will find out in a few weeks when she sees her Pediatric Optomitrist whom will preform a few visual motor tests. On the school level, she still qualifies for ST and OT, yet on a private therapy end outside of school she only now has ST. On her SPD she has/had difficulty in all areas except smell. She has improved as well as her anxiety now that we have a home remody for her. As far as her speech/language issues and behavior, its a daily challenge at times. The older she's getting the more impulsive and inattentive she gets and her memory too isn't the best at times. I do have to be repetative, ask her questions on what I have stated and for her to repeat it back to me for understanding. She works best with reminders and visuals as well. She too has seen a Psychologist and she hasn't been diagnosed with the ADHD. Its alot to take in yet it'll be ok. It takes time. She has improved alot from when we started 5 yrs ago. God bless and best of luck.

My daughter has been diagnosed with SPD and Auditory Processing but her doctor mentioned Dyspraxia but she has not been confirmed on that. She has been placed in special ed for reading and math due to consistant performance problems even with interventions. She receives OT for the sensory and PT for the other things. Her PT did Interactive Metronome with her and she did have some improvement with the Auditory Processing. I am not sure what to do about the dyspraxia part of it. She is in the 4th grade and has been diagnosed with SPD since age 4 and the auditory processing testing was done in 1st grade. She is still struggling with reading despite the special ed services this year.
