My son is 27 and was born with multiple handicaps. My husband and I grew in every way as we guided our beautiful, special son through many difficult circumstances. The most wonderful thing that happened through it all was an ever growing closeness to 0ur Lord and Savior. He was with us every step in all those years.
The result of it all was His direction to start a church for Special need people of all ages. All are welcome. Included are caregivers, family and friends. This church began on Sept and is growing as we learn under the Lord's guidance.....after all...it is His!

Can you tell me a bit more. My son is seven years old and was diagnosed with severe autism and epilepsy. Your church sounds like a ray of hope.

I wish I was a little closer to my native Ohio now... I am more than certain that my son with down syndrome would LOVE to participate! He already loves church so much it would be so much more special to share God's word and love with other children with special needs. I wish you all nothing but the best. God bless you.

I would love a church for specifically for special needs - luckily the church we attend is accepting to those that are a tad different than the norm. My son is borderling mentally disabled with no other diagnosis - they help him and accept him and him limitations, they take him and let him grow within their program.
It's wonderful what God will do in our lives to help those that need it! Great job!

I think this is a wonderful thing you are doing! My son (who is autistic) has bee kicked out of EVERY church nursery/sunday school that we've ever gone to. From infany on. We stopped going to church when he was 8, as his one yr old sister also started showing the signs of autism. And we just didn't have it in us anymore to deal w/ all the hypocracy/judgement an unacceptance of our special needs children, yet our "normal" developing children were all accepted. I would love to see a church like yours develop in our area!

this sounds like a wonderful thing, and God will bless you all for it. I am in Australia, so a little far to attend. We take our 16 year old autistic daughter to church regulary, she has been going all her life and not to the same church either, so has coped with change in that area. yes, it can be hard until people realise that she is different and has her own needs which are not as their own, but once they understand they are usually very accepting of her. hopefully your idea will grow. bless you.

Our church is in the process of starting a buddy system for our special needs children. Every special needs child will be assigned a buddy to help them during Sunday School, Children's Church, Bible Study, and Awanas.

I'd like to know more about this, especially times and places, and such. If not for me, for my best friend :)

Our growing church is in East Liverpool Ohio and is housed in my "Mom Church" as we continue to grow. All people, all types of disabilities, all ages are welcome. "Distractions" are all part of life in our services. We are planning a Christmas Program for Dec. 19 and a cookie exchange. We are excited for all that the Lord is doing!

Absolutely! How awesome, where is this and what are the church services usually like? Was one of his handicaps - autism?
