Hi fellow SN moms - I teach yoga to kids with special needs and mother 2 myself - I've put together an article on iVillage "8 Simple Stress Busters for Kids" with my favorite activities that teach kids how to settle down when they're feeling hyper or anxious. They're also good for grownups! Please take a look and let me know what you think, and add your suggestions, too! http://upside-down-patty.blogspot.com/20...

That's great, Sandra! I love it when TV shows model calming/problem solving behavior in a way kids want to copy - it gives the child the power to decide to do it when they need to. With all of these activities/techniques, it works best to practice it as something fun. When the going gets tough, if your child says "I know what I'm going to do!" and believes the deep breaths or Jumping Bean, or Volcano, etc. is her idea, so much the better. So glad Kai Lan is working for your daughter!

Recently my daughter was watching an episode of KaiLin on NickJr. The gist of the program was how to calm down. Stop what you are doing. Breathe deeply. Hands in front of you, move side to side, continue breathing deeply. Sounds corny when you see it as a cartoon but it works for her. Especially when you tell her to calm down like KaiLin does.
