My son has Downs Syndrome and will be 7 in Sep..He seems to have always had a fear of loud noises. What's weird is not all noises bother him.I'm wondering if this problem could be a sensory issue. If so, who do I talk to about finding out if he has a sensory problem?Help, please!

I found this website to be helpful with my daughter who has sensory issues. I like others have suggested would talk to the dr about getting and OT eleval. they can help find and work on dealing with sensory issues! Good luck!

an occupational therapist could help you determine whether or not he has sensory issues. does anything else bother him?

Have you seen a speech pathologist or occupational therapist?

I am a pediatric O.T. Down syndrome kids often have sensory issues. They also develop some behavior issues as they grow. If he doesn't seem to ahve other issues aside from not liking loud noise, I wouldn't be very concerned. Many children are sensitive to different noises. Auditory sensitivity is hard to treat. If you want, you can find a lot of information on my site www.milestonemom.com.
