There seems to be lots of articles out there written about divorce but not about separation....

I told my 11yr old daughter that were are staying at Gran and Pops house for a little bit. She knows whats going on, i try not to let her see me cry, but she has got to know that it is not ok to be a doormat and that is why i left. Its been a week Tuesday and she hasnt asked to see him at all, i told her it is a good idea to stay the night with him tomorrow night because he is leaving soon and we dont know when she will see him again.

I like the book, The Truth About Children and Divorce: How to Manage the Emotions so you and your children can thrive. It has some suggestions and sample scripts that I used/modified when their dad and I separated. Good luck.

Terri, my 2 boys have seen me cry so much that they wouldn't know the difference....which is why I'm leaving. Unfortunately, it's taking longer than I would like but I'm hoping to make the transition as easy as possible for them.

I didn't have to tell my kids (ages 10 & 8). My daughter knew as soon as she came home from school and saw me crying. That was heartbreaking.
