A super way to stay in touch....directly and indirectly...through FACEBOOK, of course! My 2 college boys play Scrabble (wordscrapper, now) plus various other games on facebook...if they are playing I know they are OK!

My daughter is graduating from Erskine College (small private, Christian college) in May and my son started as a Freshman at Univ. of NC at Charlotte (UNCC). I still have a 3rd grader too! My daughter went away to college the same year my son started Kindergarten! That was wierd. I didn't cry with either one! My daughter was so excited and so was my baby starting kindergarten! It is very hard to juggle two kids in college, keep up on college finances and all. Erskine does everything for you where UNCC we have to do it all! I was spoiled with a small college. I don't know how to do it all! And books??? Help! $$$$ I am running out! We try to get them on half.com (cheap textbooks!), but sometimes you have to buy them from the college bookstore at 3x's the price! I'm glad I don't have an empty nest yet, we are not even 50 yrs old yet! Good luck!

My last child of 3 left 4 college this past fall. i was also raising my grandson, my oldest sons baby, while he was overseas playing professional basketball. my 19 year old daughter was still living at home and decided 2 take a year off of school and go overseas with her brother and help him with the baby. now the house is quiet. i took my grandson and my daughter overseas the first of october. it has been nice but also lonely. my youngest plays basketball and his season has startd so ive gone up 2 see him quite a bit but its still not the same around here.

My oldest is off at college, his second year. But not empty nesters yet, I have twin 7 yr old boys at home, so they keep me busy. I cant imagine having grown kids back in the house. dont let them take advantage of ya, ( this from a indulgent mommy no less) The kids have to learn how to budget or they will never be able to move out. Good luck and keep us updated

Thanks Melody! Random thoughts are appreciated. We tried the rent thing and then they didnt' have enough money for gas to get back and forth to work or school (one doing one, one the other). I hate to put them on a budget and "act like their mother" LOL, but I'm thinking of that next. Maybe not... I'm random too. :)

I haven't faced it yet. My son moved back home briefly before he got married. My rule about being home at a certain time stuck. I told him it was so I could rest. I needed him to be in at a certain time so I could get some sleep. If he was staying out, to let me know. As for the laundry and such, I made them do it before, so they don't expect it. LOL! If they are adults, you could charge them rent for the extra expense. You could even put part of the rent they pay into an account for them to use as a down payment when they are getting a place of their own.
Someone else probably can help better with that one. Just some random thoughts from me. LOL

Well, at least sometimes it's nice to have your house back. :) And it's also nice to have your nest full again too -- sometimes... LOL Anyone else dealing with the kids who return? What do you do with the boys expecting Mom is be 'mom' - i.e. laundry, cook, clean, etc. ???

We have our first college student, however she is our Youngest. The kicker is the older two have had failed marriages and have now returned home. I didn't want to have an empty nest but this is a little too much sometimes. oh, and I have two granddaughters, one who stays for the weekend sometimes.

I have one married too. No grandchildren yet. But FOUR more at home! You'll never have an empty nest. Not necessarily a bad thing, is it?
