When I was 16 I had a miscarriage and had only just started having a period .... my mom & sister took to the internet 9 years ago and new that i had PCOS even though no one in my family has it. But yet it took doctors 8 years to test me for it and it took my mom a few days. I have never had a regular period unless im on BC. But no Doctor would test me for it and there reason was because i wasn't over weight. I finally got taken care of 3 miscarriage later. Now 25 i have a beautiful 5 month old boy.

Did anyone else have a issue?

i had trouble getting diagnosed since i wasn't having weight issues. i know this one of many characteristics, but my hormones were off, period were always missing, hair growing where i didn't want it, etc so i had to have a second opinion. sure enough, it was PCOS.

I had trouble when I was first diagnosed and even after I had trouble with treatment. I had no problems getting pregnant with my first daughter, my ex and I tried for 3 months, that was it. Then about a year after I gave birth I started to have problems with irregular periods and heavy bleeding. After many dr visits and finally a trip to the ER, and switching dr's, I was given the diagnosis of PCOS. The doc that diagnosed me, left and I had to switch doc's again, well this one didn't want to do anything other than BC, and I wanted to get pregnant. So I switched doc's again, and that one put me on metformin, nothing happened. Then he tried chlomid, it worked, well it made ME work correctly, lol. Still didn't get pregnant. (found out the ex had become sterile, and was also sleeping around, so needless to say, that's why he's the ex!) Now, I'm remarried and starting to think about having another baby. Still been going through the problems. I was so sick of being on BC that I went off of it for about 4 months and had periods on my own, so I thought maybe we could get pregnant on our own. Well, I started having severe pain again and missed 2 periods, so I had my doc order a pregnancy test to make sure, negative of course, then he gave me a script for meds to make me have a period and then I was to start the BC again to get regulated again. Well, 2 weeks into the BC, I started having severe pain, cramping and bleeding. I went to the doc and found out I was pregnant. Then 3 days later found out it was ectopic. So, I currently dealing with that now. My doc wants me to go back on BC for 6 months to give my body time to heal from the ectopic pregnancy, and then we'll try again. I think she wants to start with metformin again, but I might try and convince her just to go with the chlomid. At least I know I can get pregnant on my own, and with my new, faithful husband. =P

My Dr was really cool about it. I told him all the things that I was going through and then I told him that my sister was diagnosed with it 5 years earlier. He put me on metformin in November and I was Prego by Feb. I think that you have to force them to do anything. It also helped that we had tried for 2.5 years with no luck.

yes! when I was 20, and my husband and I were wanting to try and have a baby my dr told me that I was too young to worry about it and refused to give me fertility meds. She said there was nothing wrong and eventually I would get pregnant. Alot she knew! I finally did get pregnant with a lot of drugs, my little boy is 2 now. Needless to say I switched drs. I know what you mean about the weight thing. I've spent a lot of time trying to convince drs that I have pcos because I don't "look" like I do.
