LOL Gillian, I suspect that's what I'm going through now.....My mum took 10 years too, and she started when she was 42, so while I need to go and get my bloods checked for my hormone levels, it's looking like a no brainer......

Well they've agreed to do it this time, I think they knew I was very deffinate since I came back and I got my GP to write a letter explaining I had concidered the options and this was my choice.
I adgree Jenny it's going to be annoying still getting periods after this when there's no point, I almost wish they could take away my womb and just leave my overies so no more periods but no menopause just yet, my mum has been going through hers for the past ten years so I think I'll wait a while before having to experience that. I'd like a few years of undisturbed nights before getting woken up with night sweats.

I made a deal with my hubby as he's a chicken about it too,
I will get the 5 year mirena coil and when it time is up he gets fixed
I think men are scared it might break there winkys or something lol

That is strange that they wouldn't do it for you but would for your husband. Maybe they figure it is likely the women to have regrets? After four kids you figure you'd be a shoo in.

I had a tubal ligation. I was 28 when I had it done after two kids. It was VERY easy. It was like 4 questions from the OB/GYN, not really pressed on it and that was that. I had it done with my son's planned C-section.

It is such a load off to not have to think about birth control anymore but my period extra pisses me off, being so pointless and all.

My husband is scared to get a vasectomy. I told him that it would be easier for him than for me to get fixed, but he's such a chicken!

Gillian, I think the difference is that the vasectomy is a less invasive procedure with a quicker recovery time. Also, the failure rate is 10 times higher for a tubal ligation than a vasectomy (1 in 200 for the tubal, compared to 1 in 2000 for the vasectomy).

Just thought I'd share my research :) My hubby had the vasectomy about 4 1/2 years ago.

Good luck! I hope this other doctor can do this for you. I've never actually heard of a doctor refusing to do the procedure on a person in their 30's before.

That's really silly that they would not let you get it done the first time, its not like your 18 and wanting it done on a whim.
I don't think i would have a problem getting it done hear you can basically do what you like as you have to pay for it yourself I would go get mine done in a heart beat if i could afford to :-(

The mirena coil is the one with hormones in it but seemingly it's a tiny dose compared to the pill which I can't tak. But still it only lasts 5 years and I want something permanent. They said Iain could get a vacectomy if we wanted but weren't willing to sterilise me, can't really see the difference as we're not planning on splitting up and I told them even if he were to die there was no way I would want to have more children. Hopefully I'll have more luck with the gyny. My sister got her tubes tied when she was 35 and has never had any kids - don't figure!!

is that like the essure coil? let me know how the tube tying goes if you get it done. i scared myself out of mine lol. i don't want babies but i'm terrified of side effects
