every one of us has a certain song that takes us back. good or bad music has that effect on us, what's one of your songs that makes you think of the past and what's the story behind it?

This is a great topic!!

Under the Bridge by Red Hot Chili Peppers brings me back to when I was very young and had verry happy memories. I don't know why I like it so much but it just brings me back. WAY Back!

Also... Eric Clapton Willie and the Handjive. I remember sitting on my Dads lap lap and doing the handjive when I was probably 5. The good ole days :)

This song was an end to a failed 4 1/2 year relationship that hurt like a bitch at the time and the re evaluation of me and what i wanted out of life.
I got my Tattoo done of a Phoenix and started over back in SA

The Cars – Who's gonna drive you home.
My Dad always insisted this was to be played at his funeral, which we did it was probably the one song we played that made everyone breakdown as he died in a car accident,
It was a funny and sad song for me as it would of appealed to my dads slightly twisted sense of humour but made me cry too.

@Carol

"My husband has terrible taste in music. He hasn't realized that there was music before 1975 or after 1987. Or that there might have been something other than classic rock or hair metal between those years."

I think our husband's would get along... LOL! He is an 80's freak... I love him to pieces, and I love the 80's, but I get so tired of hearing classic rock and hair metal sometimes, lol.

But, I absolutely love the Eagles. My husband plays Hotel California every night and, even in the womb, I think she's dancing. Ha!

This song reminds me of my best friend who moved back to the UK last year, we used to go to Karaoke at least twice a week when we were single, she always sang Hey big spender by Shirley Bassey, I love it!

And I too love anything Dave Matthews & Dolly Parton. I am a big Kenny Rogers fan too. Simon & Garfunkel make me think of my parents. Steal My Kisses by Ben Harper and Jack Johnson's Upside Down make me think of my daughter.

My alone song, the one that just makes me just feel all chilled and warm at the same time is Van Morrison's Into the Mystic. I just want to be driving through the country on a moonlit night. This is Colin James' (local guy) covering it. Great version:

In all seriousness, the Eagles One of these Nights is the song that is truly ours. We didn't dance to it at our wedding because it might have gotten a little "risque". It always makes me want to go into the bedroom...

My husband has terrible taste in music. He hasn't realized that there was music before 1975 or after 1987. Or that there might have been something other than classic rock or hair metal between those years. So the song that makes me think of him is the song that he wanted to play as I walked down the aisle, but that he settled for playing as we left the church:

Wanda, it's a beautiful song ... I think I'm just conditioned to dislike it. Conditioned emotional response because of my ex husband and all. lol.

I love CCR!! :) A lot of Rod Stewart's songs remind me of my mom too.

Funny since both of my parents are around - I think music is the one thing that can tie to my emotions better than anything else. :)

Thanks Kati. Now I have Islands in the Stream stuck in my head.

Once Dolly's in your head, it's hard to get her out.

Funny story: When my husband and I were first married we were talking in the car. All of a sudden one of Dolly's songs came on the radio and he held up his hand and said, "HUSH! Ms. Dolly's singing." NOT KIDDING! LOL. He's a huge Dolly Parton fan. I joke that he would leave me for her if he had the chance.

[deleted account]

I love 'Amazed', it's mine and my hubby's song but we're still together so that probab;y makes the difference :)

'Have You Ever Seen The Rain' by CCR reminds me of my dad. I can remember him and I coming home from the store one night singing it.

'Forever Young' by Rod Stewart reminds of my mom. I remember when it came out, she always said it was our song.

'Ordinary Miracle' by Sarah Mclachlan and 'I Hope You Dance' by LeeAnne Womack will always remind of my son.

Teresa, I don't like Amazed either, mine and my ex husband's song. I think that's the most popular wedding song ever. lol.

[deleted account]

2 songs that I love, but hate to hear now.... Amazed by LoneStar... 'our' song from our wedding and Two Of A Kind (I think that's the title) by Garth Brooks (? I think).... it was our song after the girls were born, but we changed the words a little. Instead of 'working on a full house' it was 'almost got a full house' since we were planning on trying for a 3rd, but NOT THEN ;)

This one reminds me of my husband, because in our early days of dating, it seemed like this song just followed us everywhere. We'd hear it at the cafe, we'd be walking down the street and a car would pass by, playing it -- it just seemed to always be wherever we were:

And the second one reminds me so much of my freshman year at university, and dancing around wildly with my new friends, cheap vodka and lime in hand.

[deleted account]

Hank Williams Sr. and Patsi Kline remind of my dad.

Sandi Patti and Amy Grant remind me of my mom...lol

The very first song that my husband ever said reminded him of me was when he was driving from a post in Oklahoma to his new duty station (here in Kentucky) is called Teddybear, by Elvis Presley. It's still 'our' song. lol. (It's cheesy but cute!)

And there's another song that reminds me of my brother, it's by Kenny Chesney called Who You'd Be Today. It always chokes me up.

The one that reminds me of my Dad is by Reba McEntire, it's called The Man I Never Knew. (He's still alive, and we're very close, he's just a very, very quiet man. If you knew him, you'd understand lol.)

when we first started dating we would make fun of the song "if i could make a livin out of loving you" by clay walker. all the time and be cheeseballs singing it together. when we made our cd's for each other like 3 months after we started dating we said that if there was the same song on each of ours that would be "our song". and that was it! cant find a good video of it...

[deleted account]

Three songs that bring me back to high school:

1. Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls - My friend Annie claims that she made out with John Rzeznik after she followed him after a concert. I believe the SHE would, but I wouldn't believe anyone else if they told me that!

2. Total Eclipse of the Heart by Bonnie Tyler - This one is sooo cheesy but we used to sing it at the top of our lungs in my best friend's mustang with the window's rolled down. Good times.

3. Bohemian Rhapsody - This was my high school boyfriend's favorite song. So we listened to it often riding around in his mom's car. I'm happy to say that we are still friends. He actually lives one block from me with is wife (who looks like me...lol) and their sweet little baby.

Songs that remind me of my husband

1. At Last by Etta James - our first dance at our wedding reception

2. any kind of swing or big band music - We used to go to New Orleans once a week and swing dance. Before I met him I liked blues dancing but he never got into that.

3. Any Norah Jones - It was constantly in my CD player when we first started dating and he took me to her concert a month before he proposed

i love that song gillian! yours reminded me of a song that helped me after grants dad left us. it was also a period i nmy life where i was reminded of my own dad leaving, and now my son would have to deal with that pain, and i felt like i caused that for choosing to sleep with such a loser. just watching it now made me cry.

I remember listening to this as I was deciding to leave my ex, I realised I'd pretty much f**ked up my life by being with him and needed to change. So I left him moved back home and three months later met Iain. I tried listening to the song a few times after that but never could wothout feeling horribly upset about the bad choices I'd made. I can listen to it now and see that everything I did just helped make me the person I am now but it still does tug at something inside.

i have a couple:
first is "the chad that loved me", by mansun. i never heard the song before until my husband put it on a cd he made for me (his name is chad) and i fell in love with the song.

i also have another that reminds me of an exboyfriend. he would work on radio towers so he was gone all the time. he told me he'd carry my love with him. the song is "carrying your love with me" by george strait.
