The discussion on cricket on the other thread got me to thinking... What kind of sports is everyone interested in? Which do you play? Which do you watch? Are there any of you who are sick of hubby watching sports? Are you a rabid fan of a specific team?

If you see this, leave this form field blank.

Dana, yes I was in BC and spent a little time in Vancouver too. But I was skiing at Panorama (which was AWESOME) and Big White (which I found much more commercial, and didn't really enjoy as much). Basically, we flew into Calgary (via Hawaii, LOL), and moved our way across the Rockies for a few weeks until we got to Vancouver. It was a fantastic divorce gift to myself!!!! I'd love to get back one of these days :)

And what's with this "hill" stuff?? When you are from Australia, Canada has mountains!!!

i'm so jealous loureen! i live in iowa, which is right smack dab in the middle of the united states, no ocean for hundreds of miles. i'm 31, and my first visit to the ocean was 2 years ago. i loved it, and now for every vacation we must go to the ocean everytime. i'd love to be able to just go, whenever i wanted to. we have good lakes, but it just ain't the same, no surf, no awesome smell, totally brown water, not blue or clear. sigh.
our outdoor PE classes in school consisted of tennis, golf, flag football, and running the mile on the track.

Jodi, you said the last time you were on a ski hill was in Canada.....just wondering what one? Have you ever been to BC?

NZ would be awesome. Queenstown is a great place. Never been there to ski, but went there in the summer, and did some of the summer activities. It still snowed while we were there though, on the day we went white water rafting!! We also went to Mt Cook, it was great :) I want to go back and spend some more time.

Now you are making me feel really old Sunny!!! Old enough to be your mother actually - I graduated high school in 87.....

And yes, I remember visiting Baw Baw in the 70s when we lived in the outskirts of Melbourne before they were the outskirts of Melbourne (Belgrave).

My hubby and oldest son LOVE football (soccer), they watch at least one match a week - more if their teams are playing more than once or the rivals are playing. I hate it but have to let them as I can't control the TV all the time as mich as I may like to. I do get involved now and cheer when their teams win too and moan at them for poluting me lol! I like watching rugby when scotland are playing and I watch the olympics. When the world cup is on I'm sure I'll be subjected to at least one match everyday. I'll be very glad once it's over.

Loureen, not the car races, more the bikes and some of the extreme stuff. Love the monster trucks and some of the drag racing.

Sunny, we used to ski at Mt Stirling a lot too - really pretty up there and not at all commercial. In recent years, though, I don't think the snow has been all that good. The snow was much better when I was younger....back in the 80s :)

Loureen, that sounds WAY more fun than cross country running in the pouring rain (although it was on our 'beach'!!), getting beaten with hockey sticks in the freezing cold (and usually...rain) and girls lobbing tennis balls at my head!! (of course.....in the rain!) hehehe! :)

Our school was a 1 minute walk from the beach so we would go surfing every PE lesson , every sport lesson ( which was separate to pE ) even if the surf was cranking and we were in English or maths the teacher would tell us to go grab our boards because there's a swell on !! if there wasn't any surf PE was scuba diving , snorkeling or kayaking we were one of the only two marine based high schools in Australia , we had a lot of fun , i loved school !

I would rather walk over broken glass than PLAY any sports! At school PE was like ritual humiliation for me! :(
I quite like watching cricket though, i got really into it the year England won the ashes for the first time in like a million years!
I cried when i watched their parade through London!

I also quite like Formula One......used to hate it, but i'm forced to watch it round Pete's parents house....so it was either start liking it......or sit their bored out of my brain! LOL! :)

Ooh, I forgot about winter sports too :) I love skiing. I grew up in NE Victoria near Mt Buller, and we went a lot during the winter. Mostly cross country, but sometimes downhill. I haven't been skiing for a long time - last time was actually when I was in Canada about 8 years ago. Sad isn't it?

And I forgot about the motor sports tuff too, we like to watch some of that on Foxtel.

I hate sport, I would rather clean the toilet than sit through any kind of sports game. I don't even like the Olympics. Before I was pregnant I used to do kick boxing, but even then I didn't like watching it even live.

I am a HUGE basketball fan! Love it and am hoping my boy takes an interest in it. Used to play til I shattered my knee in highschool

Love UFC and boxing too! My ex was a boxer growing up and actually trained with St Pierre's trainer!

Totally not a Canadian thing to say but I can't stand hockey!!! I pray that J doesn't want to play (I know it's horrible and selfish but besides the cost, mommy really doesn't want to get up and have you on the rink by 6 am!!)

I actually think Lacross (short of the violence) is an awesome sport. Loved watching my little nephews play!

I love snowboarding only because the conversion from surf to snow was so easy , i tried skiing once and i was so uncoordinated i did the splits shot under the fence , smashed my head on the rail looking up and landed in a mess all tangled up with the hottest ski instructor at the lift , SHAME !!!

Hmmm well i do watch AFL aussies rules football, but im a trader because i go for an out of state team lol.
I love ballet and gymnastics, mainly because i do both, and i love watching them on tv.
I use to play badminton and volleyball at school because they were the only sports i was any good at lol
I was the only girl in my whole school to have never played netball, it just always seemed stupid to me...

Well, my hubby an I love watching the tennis, but that's about it. He will watch football (i.e. Aussie Rules or rugby) sometimes, but not if I am wanting to watch TV. He doesn't watch it much.

My son plays Aussie Rules, Rugby and Basketball. he has also played soccer.

These days I don't play any sports myself, I don't have time :) I just walk and kick a ball around in the back yard with the kids, LOL. But I used to play field hockey, basketball and badminton, and I also used to horseride competitively (show jumping and cross country racing).

i know!! i absolutely love it. so much more interesting than boxing to me. i love the jiu jitsu (totally butchered that spelling) parts. anderson silva is a tool, and so is matt hughes. i love georges st pierre, and bj penn. mostly for reasons other than how they perform in the octagon, but still........

oh yeah, i loathe basketball. most pointless sport ever if you ask me. and baseball isn't fun to watch on tv at all, i'd rather go to a baseball game and then i can enjoy it.

i can't play a sport to save my life. i did gymnastics when i was younger, and i loved it, but i am terrified of performing in front of people.
i absolutely LOVE football (american football-REAL football, LOL!!). I love college football more than the NFL. the iowa hawkeyes are my favorite college team, and the dallas cowboys are my favorite professional team. my hawkeyes had a great season (FINALLY!!) last year. we won the orange bowl!! yay! i would love to see a hawkeye game in person. i only live an hour away. the stadium is right next to the hospital i had 2 of my children at, and where i go for most everything, so i pass it regularly, and kick myself wondering why i havn't been there yet. i was by it 2 times this week as a matter of fact.

i love most of what my husband loves actually, and we were like that before we met each other. we were both cowboys, and hawkeyes fans. he has gotten me to like ultimate fighting though. we're never around each other enough for me to get sick of him watching something....

[deleted account]

I played Women's Fastpitch ( for Abbotsford ) till I was 26! LOVE baseball......people think I'm strange watching a game on TV! I rollerblade, wakeboard and LOVE to ski and snowboard!

Both my SIL and my brother have played Rugby their entire lives.....my SIL even played for the Canadian Womens team and they've recently got my 6 year old niece involved and she LOVES it! It's exciting to watch, especially since she's better than all the boys! ; )

I really enjoy hockey that much but definitely gotta support those CANUCKS.....GO CANADA!

I hate almost all sports. Hockey is the only one that I am willing to watch, but only if I'm there. I will appease my husband and watch the Super Bowl, though. He's a HUGE football (American football) fan! He's been a Chicago Bear's fan since he was 3. (I've seen the pictures for proof on that one.) Thankfully, he's calmed down with his 'mini-obsession' with the sport. He used to keep binders with all the stats for all the players on every team! Now he just watches every single Bear's game, and most Indianapolis Colt's games (since this is where he was born and grew up).

The only 'sport' I'll play is disc-golf. (kind of a mixture between golf and frisbee, I guess... been playing it since before I can remember.)

I watch profootball. American. I'm a steelers fan, all the way. I secretly have a soft spot for the titans, but I won't admit it to my boyfriend who is a HUGE titans fan ;) He's also into college games, which is fine to watch but I don't get into it like I do pro.

I HATE basketball and baseball more than any other sport on the planet. I'd rather watch something completely mindnumbingly boring, fishing or golf, than those two ;/ The boyfriend has been kind enough to NOT watch basketball around me, and he hates baseball as much as I do.

I'd like to watch hockey, If I get directv I will probably start watching hockey. Looks like fun, haven't had the opportunity to get into it really.

I kind of enjoy watching tennis, love playing tennis. Love playing volleyball, hate watching it.

Um, well.. I like to watch SOME football (but always pro, never college) and I like to watch baseball and soccer (though I would rather be AT the game, not in my living room watching the TV).. My hubby does watch entirely way too many sports related shows when he's home. ESPN and ESPN News almost all the stinking time.. But I love him, so what can I do? Especially when he's gone to work all day (and in this instance is deployed and coming home for a visit), so that's the least I can do is let him get his fill of sports while he's home. And I LOVE the Pittsburgh Steelers/Pirates (Steelers is football and Pirates is baseball) and I LOVE the New York Jets/Yankees (Unless the Jets are playing the Steelers, then it's Steelers all the way! But don't tell my husband that.. I don't want him to know that he semi-converted me since he is a huge Jets fan ;)) And I don't have a favorite soccer team b/c I haven't been able to really focus on a game for quite a while, but when I get the chance, I do enjoy it.

I could care less about sports. Although I do enjoy a good game of hockey now and again (but only in RL, I won't sit and watch it on the tv). My hubby loves football and rugby (and he's on a rugby team, so that means I have to take a crash course on how rugby works because he's making me come watch :S lmao) His fave football team is the Pittsburgh Steelers, therefore that makes them my fave team as well. I do girly sports, like belly dancing ^_^

[deleted account]

Neither my husband or I are sports fanatics.

BUT we will watch anytime the LSU Tigers or New Orleans Saints are on tv. I had season tickets for LSU football when I was in college but it was more of a social event for me. And of course we were glued to the tv when the Saints won the Superbowl! Who Dat??!!

Husband will watch any and all tennis. I really don't mind that because it is more of an "intelligent" sport (for lack of better word). It takes strategy and forethought, but is still pretty exciting. I was annoyed by all the tennis at first, but its really grown on me so much that I know the players and rules...lol! One of our dreams is to go to the Wimbledon finals. I'd love to see Roger Federer play...hot!
