It's all time better way to deal with PHOBIC things just by AVOIDING them in the ENVIRONMENT , where the phobic personality lives or do step by step DESENSITIZATION from the PHOBIC OBJECTS rather than become OBSESSIVE and COMPULSIVE in responding to the OBJECTS being thought as PHOBIC OBJECTS.

Here's a phobia of mine: being pregnant again. Last time, when I realized I was knocked up, I had tried to do crunches and it was extremely painful, my belly said hell no, which is very odd. Two days ago I did my crunches and have been aching ever since ;/ I don't think I'm pregnant, but the thought is almost enough to induce a panic attack.

OH AND I will NOT go into any lakes, beaches, oceans or water of any kind UNLESS it's a pool :) Scary ewwy things in there.

I don't like anything if there is more than just a few of them, flocks of birds, schools of fish. things like that. Even when we went to the butterfly farm there were too many of them and I got freeked out and had to leave. cows, cats, dogs, horses anything at all if there are too many of them I just feel like I'm outnumbered and they could attack and overwhelm me easily - Iain felt the same way when he used to come and pick me up from work and all the kids in the nursery would swarm over - he doesn't like packs of things either!!

i once walked into a swarm of maggots and realized i was surrounded , i stood there screaming hysterically until Jamie arrived to carry me out , i was literally paralyzed by fear , i spent the day vomiting afterward .

OOOOH i forgot when i was overseas at a doctors surgery this lady had a massive boil on her face and it was moving or pulsing when it all of a sudden burst open and little spiders exploded all over her , it was like a horror movie !!

Well, your issues were kind of valid. Revolving doors and dead birds rising from the dead to peck away at you....well.....I always think that an insect(a gross one) I've put in the toilet is going to crawl out even though I smooshed it a million times. Those are issues LOL.

i feel your pain loureen! i was 5 and i had broken my leg. i dropped a piece of a sanwich on the ground underneath the picnic table i was eating at. i picked it up and when i did i discovered it was covered with fire ants. i immediately dropped it and it landed on my lap where the ants proceeded to go down my cast and bite the crap out of my leg. great times with those little buggars!!!

i found out today that i am apparantly deathly afraid of dead birds. one killed itself today by running into the window at work. my manager came over too pick it up for me and was going to put it in the garbage can next to me. as soon as he got near me i started screaming and dryheaving!! who the hell would put a dead lice dcovered bird in a garbage can inside? effing disgusting. if he would've put it there, my luck the thing wouldn't of really been dead and it would come alive and peck the crap out of me in the middle of me helping someone, lol!!

I was attacked by fire ants , i had large welts the size of tennis balls on my legs that burnt like cigarettes being put out on my skin for SIX MONTHS !!!! not cool .

They attacked and munched. It was an all out war. If termites ever manage to get in I'll be doing the eco friendly thing this time and unleash ants in my crawl space. They were freakin' incredible. Kidnapping termites twice their size, stupid termites. Big ants were snatching them also, but the tiny ants were the coolest.

Nothing that "swarms" is cool. Things that swarm just make me itchy. Although it was pretty great seeing the war of ants vs termites. Didn't know ants munched on termites til today.

Termites are cool too. They have a protozoa in them and they both live off of each other. The protozoa helps them digest the wood. We had to observe them under a microscope in college biology-----------super interesting ;)

Got a new one. Termites. Found some swarmer near my house this morning, realizing it was that time of year, I freaked out and launched a full assault with a few different types of pesticides. I just killed the Ohio river And virtually no bug around my house is alive at this point. Except the silver and black spiders which are apparently indestructible.

oooOOOoo i love blood and flaps of skin LOL i did work experience in the army in the medical unit and i got to cut stitches out of a guys head which was fun , i also got to canulate (draw blood with needles ) a few people , i also requested to stand in and watch the doctors sow my dads head up while it spurted blood after a bad surfing accident , they let me , it was awesome !

thanks emma, i'm eating my sub sandwich, browsing through COM, and then i see "i once had to hold someones scalp on", ewwwww. flaps of skin do bug me too, i get a little weirded by blood nothiing bad, but flaps of skin and the flesh underneath just make me want to vomit.
my husband works at a printing facility, and there's a machine there that shaked the newspapers in to nice stacks, and there's like the aseembly line thingy that puts the newpapers onto the shaker thing. well, one night the papers got stuck and started to back up, well a guy chad works with went in there to get them unstuck. he had a ponytail, and it got cuaght in the assembly line thing above him and yanked the whole thing off in one swoop, pretty much scalping him. icky icky icky!!!

O Carol I once had to hold someone scalp on while we waited for an ambulance, This guy got bottled in a bar fight and it sliced this huge flap of scalp. that was quite gross shit loads of blood.
thankfully im not squeamish over blood.

LaCi, I don't think I've seen the spiders you're talking about. Or I kill them... lol. I can't stand seeing a spider in one spot and then a few days later it's vanished. (Unless it's the long legs, lol.) Every spider except the long legs makes me itchy, I feel like they're crawling all over me, even after they've been killed. Though ants have the same effect on me, I just hate creepy crawlies... blech.

Suzette, those little funny shaped spiders that hang out in ceiling corners are the only ones that don't bother me now. Only because they rarely move and stay so small lol. Daddy long legs don't really scare me as much as they make me itchy. Something about those legs

I did think of another one I've got while watching tv last night. Head injuries. When ever I've seen someone smash their head, I get physically ill and dizzy. It just bothers me so much. I saw this drunk guy fall and hit his head on the sidewalk about 7 years ago, no blood but I can still hear that thud sound in my head. Ooh, just thinking about it is giving me the willies.

LaCi, the ONLY spider I won't kill when I find it in my house is a Daddy Long Legs... and they are poisonous. They just can't bite human flesh. Something about their fangs being too soft or their mouth isn't wide enough or something like that. They don't bother me as long as they aren't on me. :) (And they will be allowed to live in the house as long as there isn't a million of them or I don't see the web.)

Just spent about 20 minutes convincing my boyfriend to kill a spider. He finally obliged. Turns out is was poisonous ;/ not lethal, but poisonous. The hairyness of the spider is also a factor in how frightening it is.

They are Bot Fly larvae, if im not mistaken the only maggot that eats living tissue,
normal maggot's will only eat dead flesh that's why they can be used to clean wounds
