My husband and I decided to test our little lovebug's music taste. (Lovebug is her nickname, lol.) We've found that, while in the womb, she responds well to classic rock and rock music. She's a little rocker... lol!

Have any of you tested this out while you were pregnant? If so, what did your little ones respond to?

LOL Loureen! That's too cute! I haven't tried Led, Hendrix, or Nirvana yet. Tool isn't my speed, but I'll definitely try them out. We told my Dad (serious rocker, classic and new) that she's a rocker baby and he was super happy. lol. I think he's looking forward to our first visit with her (when she's about a year) and rocking out with her. LOL.

I'll definitely try them out next! Thanks! :)

MY son is obsessed with TOOL , Led zep , Hendrix , Nirvana , anything metal or rock !!
As soon as it comes on he gets his super serious face on and starts headbanging to the beat perfectly in time .

I went to a lot of concerts and festivals when i was preggers and he would kick away every time .

@Sara,

That sounds like an awesome class! Unfortunately they don't have one near me. We have lots of mommy and me stuff on post though, I wonder if they do anything like this on Military bases and if I can get someone interested in starting one. I think that would be great for the parents and the kids. Thanks for the information!! I'm definitely going to check into it.

I don't want her to be geared toward one genre over the other, though I'm sure she'll develop her favorite as most people do. I really want to introduce her to every kind of music available. Thanks again. :)

I just typed a bunch and COM lost it. Oh well.

I do want to re-type this part though. We enrolled our daughter in a Music Together class about a year ago and she LOVES it! She often wants to "play class" at home.

The class is based on research. It's a mixed age class for newborns through pre-k. It's non-performance based and the kids are allowed to participate at their own level in a way in which they are comfortable. The music is not "babyish". It includes traditional songs from all over the world as well as non-traditional tones.

I don't expect Eliza to become a musical genius or anything. It's just very enjoyable for both of us and I love that she is getting exposure to all types of music and musical elements.

If you are interested for your little one here is the website.

I hope this doesn't sound like a solicitation or anything. I just really love this class!

She didn't respond to the video you posted Gillian, though I love the song, maybe it'll work in calming her when she's born. =) She didn't like Mika, I looked it up on Youtube. He's kind of got a Latin beat going on, I like it, hubby didn't. lol. (He's stuck in the classic rock, rock thing though.)

She loves Greenday "When September Ends" and Offspring "Americana."

Heather, she liked the song your hubby sang by Bob Marley... which is a great thing. I think I'd be disappointed if she didn't like Bob Marley, lol. (So would my Dad!)

(And since I tried Bob Marley, I have to try Jimmy Buffett... lol. I always associate the two, though I don't know why...)

And she kicked around to Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville... I don't know if that's good or bad. lol.

Sunny, my favorite song by Matchbox 20 is Unwell. It fit me after my brother passed (In my opinion anyway). Or 3 a.m., I don't know why. lol. And she liked both. :)

LaCi, My husband loves Flogging Molly LOL. He hadn't brought them up for some reason, I don't know why. We tried Seven Drunken Nights and she went nuts. LOL!! When I heard the accent it reminded me of the other guy that Josh had played, John Tams, she went nuts over him too. (He's Scottish or English - I'm not sure which. The song was called Over the Hills and Far Away, maybe Nico will like him too.)

Carol, I played The Final Countdown by Europe, and she loved that too. lol.

Anytime the music stops, she stops kicking. There's some music that she just doesn't respond to. We tried with Sixpence None the Richer Kiss me, one of my favorites, she refused to respond at all.

She loved Twisted Sister, she went nuts through the entire song and when we stopped playing, she stopped moving. If we put something hip hop or R&B on, she wouldn't move. It seems she's already picky. lol.

If you have any other suggestions - let me know. I want to introduce her to more than just American rock. Hubby knows of some stuff, German mainly. I don't know of many others though.

@Jodi, LOL!!! She's been moving like crazy to Smoke on the Water too. My husband is a classic rock freak, and it's mainly what I was raised with besides country music. I'm not sure if it's the vibrations or what.

@Carolee,
AC/DC, Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, she's been responding to that too. lol. (It's all called classic rock now, but I was raised with that stuff.... so to me it's not so classic... LOL!)

I'm checking out some of the other music you have all posted. I want to see if she'll respond! :)

I listened to a lot of 'harder' music while I was pregnant with my son. He now likes Korn, Metallica, AC/DC, certain Rolling Stones songs, almost all the "good" 80's music, and Mickey Mouse. He also loves Andre Rieu (classical). He loves to watch the DVD's and dance around!

My kids are tone deaf, I tell you......Yes, I played music when I was pregnant (mostly 80s stuff), but it made no difference!!!

Sorry, correction, they do great air guitar to "Smoke on the Water"...... **beats head on brick wall**

When I was pregnant, my daughter went nuts in the womb every time "The Final Countdown" by Europe was on (it was in a popular commercial). Now that she's 21 months, she loves the 80's. She does this head bopping thing in her carseat that is absolutely hilarious.

My son use to kick like crazy when Jesse would play his dance music than stop as soon as anything like M&M would come on lol
As a new born he would calm down when we played Tracey Chapman or Matchbox 20 and now at 3 he still dances it up like crazy to dance and trance music, hates rap and hip hop and loves Tracey and Matchbox! :)

My son didnt move a bunch in the womb...but once he was born, from the day we brought him home, he loved bluegrass lol His dad and I cant stand it (grandpa put it on) but it was soothing for him. He also loved classical music, he had this little seahorse, its belly would light up and it played classical music...he loved that thing.

Now at a year old, he loves just about anything with a good beat, he loves to dance and sing...we have been listening to a lot of Bob Marley lately and he looooves it! Maybe thats because when I was pregnant with my Izzie, his Daddy always sang "three little birds" to me :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LanCLS_hI...

This is the song that I played for my youngest when he was in the womb and he did seem to respond to it when he came out - it seemed to calm him when I held him and played it for him more than other songs did - now he's older he loves all music especially rock - Greenday seems to be his favourite - I also played rock band on the x box a lot when I was pregnant with him so he was subjected to my singing a lot lol!!!! My second youngest absoulutly loves mama mia - she's 4 but it's by far her favourite film and she sings and dances along like mad - she loves Mika too (don't know if you have him in America?)
My oldest has been influenced by his dad a lot and loves AC/CD, Metallica and Iron madien - the wee rocker! My first daughter is the only traitor of the family so far and likes her pop - but she's a 9 year old girl so we let her off he he!! She likes rock too!

So far her favorite is David Bowie, she goes absolutely crazy when we play anything by David Bowie. She starts rolling and kicking. LOL. After yours was born, did he/she respond the same to the same type of music?
