Hi, I had obstetric cholestasis in my last two pregnancies, both of which resulted in C-Sections and one of them was 8 wks prem. I've now been told to retire gracefully before my luck runs out. I have three children but can't help but feel a bit sad that I can't have any more as I would have loved a big family - don't get me wrong I'm grateful for my 3 beautiful children! Anyone else been through anything similar?

Hi Katy, i'm sorry to hear that you had suffered with your last 2 pregnancies. I didn't have cholestasis in my pregnancy but was very sick all the way through with kidney and urinary tract infection one after the other which resulted in hydronephrosis (swollen kidneys) which was excrutiatingly painful at times. I was induced 2 weeks early but had to have an emergency c-section by general anaesthetic as I had severe complications. I know now that I was lucky to live through it as was my baby. To begin with I was completely against ever having any more children as I never wanted to have to go through what I did. I was sad and angry as I had always wanted more than 1 child. I have since received a lot of help psychologically after being disgnosed with post traumatic stress and would like to think that I'd have another baby not really soon but at some point in the not too distant future. I know i'll have to have a c-section and so obviously this limits how many children you can safely have. I guess I'm grateful also for my miracle and just wanted to let you know that you're not alone although my circumstances differ from yours. You do have to think about what you do have which i'm sure are 3 gorgeous children and your health too as I hear that cholestasis can be incredibly dangerous. I know thinking about what you do have and what you'd like is very difficult and I know many people wouldn't understand but I just wanted to share with you that in a way, I know how you feel. Try to enjoy your children as best you can, you have them and they have a mummy that i'm sure loves them loads!
