I just started this drug. My doctor told me what Nicole had stated about the increase chance of twins. In addition to what she stated about side effects you also have a chance of large ovarian cysts which would need to be operated on. Clomid not only helps you ovulate but it helps your follicle mature enough so you are able to produce an egg. Since my follicle (i only had one that was even close to good) was only 14 mm last month they will be increasing my dosage. I am to take mine from Cycle day 3 to cycle day 7. From cycle day 7-14 i am to have intercourse atleast every other day. On day 14 or 15 they do a follicle ultrasound to see what size they have gotten to. Then on Cycle day 21 they do a progesterone blood test to have a better indication as to if i ovulated or not. I am also on a progesterone pill which will help reduce the chance of miscarriages which i am to take from day 14 till my period arrives (to be continued as long as the doctor says if im pregnant)

I hope this was helpful! Baby dust to all!

To answer the question about twins, you only have a 10% chance of have them while on clomid. While I am not on it myself, I have read about it because we are having problems conceiving. For more than twins it is a 3% chance. Those stats do not include genetics (IE if the female has fraternal twins on her side of the family, males having nothing to do with twins.) Also, there are some side effects like nauseousness, hot flashes, mood swings, headaches and what not. However those are only present when taking the drug. Also (most) doctors tell you to take it for five days starting on or about day five of your cycle. Once you have taken it for five days, you don't take it anymore that month, but the ovulation window is from day 10-19. That's average. They recommend sex every other day or at least once a day during that time frame. And they only generally let you do 6 cycles ( meaning trying it on clomid for six months, five days each month) of the drug. IF it's not successful, then the doctors will try another fertility method with you. However Clomid has the highest success rate of any other fertility drug out there and is the most safe to use.

Hope this was helpful!!

I dont blame you one bit. Ive heard that about alot of doctors...if they were with you for your first child they seem to slack on trying to help you when having problems for your next ones.

The only time she increased my dosage is if i didnt get a positive ovulation test and I have already been on it for 6 months so my chances went out the window. Im about to go to another Dr just to see if I can get more help. Dont get me wrong I love my Dr when I was pregnant with my daughter but I would like someone else to help me this time around.

How does she know if she has you on a high enough dose? The point to my doctor monitoring everything is that she doesnt want me to waste my 6 months on clomid at the wrong dose. I would talk to her and say you would like to have a follicle ultrasound and progesterone blood work done. If she isnt will to work with you i would find a doctor that will (thats what i had to do. The doctor before this wouldnt help me at all). Unless you really like your doctor and dont want to switch.

Good luck, Baby Dust and hope this helps!

wow my Dr put me on the clomid and she didnt moniter anything. She just gave a the pills and told me when to take them and told me to take ovulation test and have sex every other day for a week when I get the positive test thats it nothing else. Some how I feel like she didnt take me seriously and didnt feel the need to see what my body is doing.

this drug is very good if it works you take it to trick you body into ovulating there are downsides you could have multiple pregnancy and it can also prevent you from getting pregnant as it can change your vaginal mucus making it hostile to sperm so still on the fence with this one i suppose in short bursts it could work but for a couple of months use could do the opposite of what your trying to achieve xxx

since it is like a fertility treatment does that mean that you have a greater chance of having twins while on this drug? If so what are the chances. My OBGYN is the fertility specialist in my town which I didn't know this until after the fact. Before I got pregnant with my daughter I has precancerous cells on my cervix and had them frozen and haven't had a problem since. And that has been two years ago. But I was thinking about asking my dr. about it. She is the best. Since we have been trying for a year now with no luck mabe we need a boost. can anyone help me out on this. Im really starting to get depressed.

I was on clomid for both my pregnancies (i miscarried one baby). I have PCOS so dont have regular ovulation. It basically promotes ovulation. The main side effects I had with it was ovulation pain (severe), and there is the risk of multiples (I actually released three eggs with my daughter - luckily only one egg planted - wow three would have been hard.) Has your doctor done blood tests to ensure you are ovulating? I've just made an appointment with my OB because I just did some follow up blood tests and have discovered it looks like I'm not again : ( Good luck and I hope you dont experience too much ovulation pain!

Hi, I'm new... I've never been on Clomid, but I was on a board with a bunch of girls that were... What I remember about it is that it is supposed to help your body ovulate and build up the endometrial lining in order for you to get pregnant. It has a lot of side effects, like getting hot all of a sudden, feeling tired and nauseated, lots of women have mood swings, so pretty much it's like your pregnant! LOL I hope this helps you and that it's accurate!
