Anyone trying/have become pregnant at 44 or 45?

I have an almost 3 year old daughter conceived more or less easily at 41...delivered at 42. I am desperate to have another one to give our daughter a sibling. I did get pregnant last cycle but promptly lost it. I superovulated with an IUI. Ancient eggs! Anyone dealing with this issue now? Apparently there is a big difference in womens' fertility after 41...even though 44 is just a few years older. What a hard journey. Anyone successful or do the donor egg route? My heart isn't quite where it needs to be for donor egg but I would be interested in talking with anyone who did go that route. Thanks! Glad to be back to Circle of Moms. Been away a long time!

I had a healthy son at 48 naturally conceived. I wasn't living to healthy either though I quit smoking ages ago. I had an easy pregnancy and delivered naturally with no drugs or medical support. He's 6 mths old now and I'm still breast feeding him and enjoying it. He's an easy, sunny child and a great blessing!

I conceived my 4th child naturally at 45, gave birth (VBAC) at 46. On my first antenatal visit, the doctor asked if I was a smoker. I said I had never smoked and he said "Then your cardiovascular system is the equivalent of that of a smoker 20 years younger than you." Pregnancy was trouble free, labour without complications in spite of obstetricians trying to put fear in me about the Caesarian scar from my son's birth 13 years earlier rupturing. (As if!!!!) Fortunately when I arrived at the small country hospital to give birth, there were no obstetricians in attendance so I was able to work with a lovely midwife who respected my experience. Recovery after the birth took longer than with my earlier pregnancies. I had very heavy bleeding for the first few weeks and was still bleeding a little at the 6 weeks check up. My daughter born healthy and normal, is now 11 years old, and at 57 I'm still getting periods, though they're spacing out a bit now. The sad part is that my daughter is ashamed and embarassed at having an older mum. She wants our family to be "normal".

Hi Michele:
I got pregnant at 44 and gave birth just before my 45th birthday. It can be done! Diet has a huge influence on fertility and you may wish to look at having a fertility enhancing diet.
I support and advocate for women having children after 40 at my site: http://www.flowerpowermom.com. There is a back catalogue of blog features there on enhancing fertility. You should also visit: http://www.mothersover40.com which is a site run by Jan Andersen in the UK--a very supportive lady!
BTW, I'm very interested in personal, inspirational stories of over 40 moms. Would you like to share with FPM readers why it's important to have a sibling? I very much felt that way about my son, who was born when I was almost 42!
Let me know,
Blessings and good luck,
Angel

I am 43 almost 44 - I am blessed with two wonderful boys from a previous marriage. My husband is 11 years younger and sadly, I have miscarried 4 children with him TTCone at 36, another at 40 and the last - a set of twins who made it to 7 weeks before MC.

I am looking at acupuncture and would do the drug treatments. I cannot pay for the IVF. He says it is alright but I know he wants a child.

I am considering donor eggs.

I thank all of you for your inspiration to not give up.

Please pray that I can conceive a healthy child that I carry to FT for him. Now that the thyroid is fixed, I am really hoping.

Thanks

Hi, I hear that someone who's been pregnant before has a better probability of getting pregnant in their mid to late 40's. It's not a great probability but better than someone like myself at age 45 who has never been pregnant before.

I had my 1st baby boy at 45 . We had tried for many years gone thru fertility treatments ivf then when that failed we decided to turn it over to god and prayer. Im not goin to say my miracle happened overnite . It took a lot of faith and positive thinking. My faith was tested when I had a miscarriage at 41 then another at 43 but I stood in faith and 6 months after my 2nd miscarriage I was pregnant again and I had healthy pregnancy until I got double pneumonia and was in hospital for a week . And although baby was doin good I lost 7 pounds wen I went home. Thank god he was gaining like he should and I had my baby via csection he was healthy . 6'14 I didn't just give birth to a baby that day but they also removed a fibroid the size of a grapefruit . Suffered blood loss from it and spent a week in hospital but i went home with a beautiful healthy baby boy . He is a blessing to us and we love him dearly .

I am 44 and have two amazing children (6, 9). Last year my husband started to push for another baby but I resisted due to my age related concerns. My obgyn told me that I had 1.6% chance to conceive naturally. Shortly after we started TTC it just happened and I was 6 wks pregnant until I started to m/c today. I didn't realize how much I wanted to have the baby until now when I lost it. My dr told me that it was sort of expected given my age and low HCG levels, and no hearbeat at u/sound. I was hoping till the last minute that she might be mistaken and that a miracle could happen, but it's over. We've been so excited over the last weeks, I've got attached to the idea of having a baby that it feels like a part of me is gone forever. I hope that I will find the strength to get through this as my heart is hurting..

If you are in the DFW area, go to SIRM in Dallas. Do you know CCRM in Colorado? I was quote a price of $100K for 3 rounds of staggered IVF (the cost is not counting the meds). SIRM is $20K for 3 IVF sounds (staggered IVF and banking embryos). I went to Dr. Sher, director of SIRM in Las Vegas but they have SIRM in Dallas. I would go there if I were you. This is my opionion. Other clinics without as good a protocol can charge much more but SIRM has years and have treated many patients, have great labs also. This what I would do and I wishe someone had told me years ago when I was a bit younger.

I am Asian. I am thinking that non-Asian women are able to get pregnant at older ages. I am thinking this is why my husband thought (like his sisters and mother, who are Caucasian) that I too could easily get pregnant at past 44 years of age. I AM THINKING that my soy-based diet maybe the the reason why I may be having problems? My sisters have tyroid issues and they of course had the same soy based diet that I had growing up. I am thinking that protein and veggie based "Western" die helps with getting pregnant later in life. I know MANY Asian women have tyroid issues and soy is tied into it (hormonal imbalance, etc).

Something to think about....Envious (in a good way, good for you) of all the women getting pregnant left and right but I have never been pregnant more than 1 time and that was with my son. I never even had MC, just don't get pregnant.

what are some of the clinics in Mexico and how much is it? Are meds cheaper?

Thank you!

Dr. Sher in Las Vegas can go as low as $5000 for IVF but the meds in the US are expensive. Any advise about how to get meds cheaper?

Thank you!

Hi Ladies,

I am so happy to find you all.

Maybe my story can help somebody...as your stories have all helped me but I would really like to make a 1:1 connection so I can ask questions and maybe help each other, so please contact me if you want: amandakim_usa@hotmail.com.

Here is my story. I had a baby naturally at 40.5. Well, not actually "naturally" but with clomed because my period was irregular to say the least (I had a period about every 5 years). I got pregnant the second time I used clomed and the first time it was timed for ovulation with ovridrel. Husband didn't want another one (long story like most of you who have experienced this issue). I went to doctors by myself and what I should have been told was to do IVF and free the embies (or even free the eggs) until husband changed his mind (I knew he would) but MDs treated me like I was insane, when I asked about my options: what I said was, my husband will change his mind but I need insurance against my age and they didn't want to help me. By the time he changed his mind, I was 44 and I had other stupid doctors (I had moved by then to another city).

OK, I did 2 IVF cycles last year when I was 46, no babies. I took a break but may do it again and there is also the donor egg option. If you are in the US and can afford it, Dr. Geoffrey Sher, MD in Las Vegas (SIRM) will not judge, is one fo the BEST in the world, and about 20% the cost of CCRM (another world famous clinic in Colorada--Dr. Schoolkraft). All this is if you are going the Western meds route and have some money to spend. I had some money to spend but thought I couldn't afford multiple IVFs but you I could, because Dr. Sher is very very reasonable (I didn't know that and was just about to not even give IVF a try).

I thank you for listening....
Amanda

hi Marcia Martin:

Parts of your posting was so similiar to my experience that I thought for a second that I had written the post but this is my first time at this website. I don't have a second child however, just 1 child. I would love to share info. Are you in the US? I am also 46, almost 47.

IVF should be through Dr. Geoffrey Sher, MD (SIRM in Las Vegas), IMHO. He is very affordable (dare I say cheap, even) for the expertise he can bring you--he is world famous. He will not discriminate you based on age as long as you don't have unrealistic expectations. I would love to chat, so please contact me: email address:

amandakim_usa@hotmail.com.

Thanks!

Get a free consultation from Dr. Geoffrey Sher, MD who is at SIRM in Las Vegas. He is my doctor. I am 47 in August, if I were 40, with Dr. Sher, I would have had a great shot. He is very affordable (relatively speaking) and I should have gone to him a few years ago to have a great shot.

Jennifer hood for you. You don't let anyone run your home but you and your husband no matter who you're leasing from. I was in that boat with my mother in law. We rented a town house from her but she thought she could come and go as she please and my siblings in law. So I told my husband we had to move. We gave her two months notice and we left. Now that we're trying to have a baby she don't like that. We just told her she don't have to like it because she's not part of the decision-making.

I will be 45 in June and we desperately want another one. We have a beautiful 5 1/2 year old daughter and my husband has 18 and 22 year old daughters from his previous marriage. Even though we wanted another one after we had our 5 1/2 year old, we allowed the pressure and negativity from my parents hold us back. We lease our house from them, and they threaten to kick us out any time we do something they don't agree with. My husband and I so regret we didn't have another, and we have decided to go for it, and suffer the consequences from my parents. I don't want to look back with regret because the only reason we haven't had another child is because of them. I know all hell will break loose if I become pregnant again, as they are adamantly against it, but it's our life, and we so desperately want another. We are also exploring adoption as well.

Yes Jesus is coming soon. Praise God!!! I have been looking on the computer they have a monthly chart that you enter your last date of your period in and it lets you know when your most fertile days are. I dont know how much you can depend on it but im going to try as well as see my doctor next week to see if i can take clomid to help my chances of getting pg and staying pg. Look into it. a 60 year old woman gave birth for her daughter and she had already stoped having her periods. she took hormones and clomid and gave birth to a daughter then 3 years latr did the same for her other daughter and had twin baby girls. There is hope for us. Prayer first then medican then our babies! If god gave a baby to sara and elizabeth and hannana and ruth was around our age he will do it for us if we just ask! have a blessed day to all.

Remember the Bible stories that there were several of older moms such as Sarah and Abraham and also Elizabeth and her husband. You and your hubby are in my daily prayers. I am so sorry about your loved ones who have passed away, I do feel for you, I lost my dear mom on August 21 2011; I truly do miss her so much! Jesus is coming back soon to take all of God's children home with him so we will be happily living forever with him and with his Father in Heaven!!

Thank you so very much for your respond i too have been dealing with anxiety and pantic attachs. But praise god I did have my daughter at almost 40 and she is such a blessing. My husband wants another child so bad I do too and I am very open to adoption but he wants one of his own. I think it would be great to have a son or daughter around the same age as my baby who is 5. But again he wants me have have a child. I have a lot of stress in my life that Im trying to get out of my life. I do believe god can give me another baby. I will also pray for you and all of the other women who are trying to conceive as it is the will of God for us to multiply. I know of many women who have had babies at 47 and even 53 and conceived naturally. I have to go for now Im dealing with funeral arrangements a fiend passed away the day before yesterday. Jesus please help all us us who are trying to conceive and help those who have conceived to carry their babies without problems and to full term amen.

Hi Susan, that is wonderful that you had your son at your age 48! I am so happy that God has given you a child! There is nothing impossible with God. I am 49 as my birthday is on December 3rd. I am in great health. I was sick with PTSD and severe depression for a while as that was when I was working in a negative job situation with the federal government. I am no longer in a negative situation as I left my job in two years ago on January 2012. I was so very glad that I left the government. I would not have time to be with my future children, not enough time to be with my hubby, my families and friends and would not be able to stay focused on Jesus on a daily basis. I had a lousy psychiatrist who have neglected my medical needs and he did not help me leave the negative job situation. I am no longer sick with PTSD and severe depression, I just have a mild depression as that is family hereditary. In my daily prayers, I pray and ask God to give me and my hubby natural children (twins) and even to be a foster to adoptive parent. No one deserve to be in a negative situation on a daily basis, God does not want anyone to suffer with illness such as PTSD and severe depression. I hope to hear from you soon. May God always bless you and your families! Please give your son love from me daily, tickle his little feet from me and kiss his feet too!

Hi Brenda, this is Teresa Hewitt. I do agree with you when you say that God does help ladies to have children from ages 35 to 50 years old, nothing is impossible with him. The most important thing is to take good care of yourself, pray daily, stay close to God on a daily basis and be in great health.

Hi Sheri, I understand you would love to have another baby. If God wants you to have another baby naturally or through foster to adoption, he surely will give you and your hubby another child in the right timing. I am 49 years old; my birthday was on Dec 3rd. My hubby and I have been trying to conceive for 6 years. I was sick with PTSD and severe depression for quite awhile as that was when I was working in the federal government job. I am no longer working in the government, I am so very HAPPY that I left there in two years ago! I am so HAPPY that I have left behind of all of the negativity! I had a lousy psychiatrist in the past, he did not provide me a good medical care and he did not help me leaving my negative job situation. With God's help, he helped me to get out of the negative situation. In my daily prayers, I pray that God will give me and my hubby children (natural and foster to adopt). I just do wish I would have a good psychiatrist in my earlier years. I have two wonderful Christian counselors now. I am deaf, but I can read lips and speak well. I will be praying for you and your hubby to be blessed with another child. Please give your daughter love from me daily. God bless you and your families always!

Hi Sheri, apparently the chances of becoming naturally pregnant at our age are around 1% max. If I were you I would talk to a fertility doctor to help you, since your chances of becoming pregnant keeps going down each month that passes now...he will help you and advice you. Good luck!

Hi Kimber, great news for you. I agree that stress and anxiety are not helpful when ttc. However it is difficult to keep them at bay. Like you, once i quit the trying i became pregnant, the outcome wasn't great, but i can work on that to!!

Breaks my heart to see women trying so hard! I am sending some positive vibes to you. I really believe that stressing out about it makes it harder, do other older moms agree? Once I 'gave up' a plus sign was there! I did however 'wish' upon my belly, saying if I can have you, I want you, as soon as I was 2 days late. I had irregular periods, had been coming down with a cold and didn't believe I really could be. I was beyond happy. However, no one else will be. I'm waiting until I'm about to show and I know everything is ok.
