I've just become a Nana. What is the favorite title in your family for Grandparents?

I became "Annie" at age 44 when my first grandchild was born. I, like others whose posts I've read, felt too young to be Granny or Grandman. Since my middle name is Ann, my two girls decided that I should be Annie as a grandparent.

I'm Grandma, Greema, and yes, my grandaughter calls me Grandpa. She can say Grandma but has always called me Grandpa and my husband is also Grandpa. I love it though as it makes me special. I have been blessed with 12 Grandkids.

I am GranMonster! That's just to two of my seven grandchildren. I love it because it is really endearing. It came about when Sam and Alexa ages 11 and 8 were screaming at each other, jumping on furniture and I was at my wits ends. I lost it and started yelling at my granddaughter (very unusual, probably the first time, and she began to sob and screamed back "You (sob, sob) are a GranMonster! We all sat down on the floor, hugged and laughed. It's now my name!

Our first Grandbaby is due at the end of January 2013. I will be called Nana taking On the name used by my husband's very belated late maternal grandmother. My own grandmothers were called "Grandma ---- (insert last name)" My mother was called Grandma --- (insert first name), while my husband's mother was called Memaw, a name she took from a late grandmother of hers. My father was called Grandpa, while my husband's father was called Grandpa (insert first name) because our children were not around him very much before his death. Their was also my husband's Step-Father who was known as Granddad, my husband's grandfathers known as Great-Granddaddy and Pop-pop.

I am Sevta, the Hebrew word for grandmother, my husband, had he lived, would have been Sabba. My granddaughter and I have yet to meet, but this is largly because should I loose my granddaughter in the grocery, if she calls out for Sevta, nobody except me is going to know what she means. My children generally call me by my first name for the same reason when they were children. I have an unusual name, and I'd rather they knew my name. It caused an interesting issue when my daughter asked me why she didn't have a mom and a dad when she was 5 or six. Fair question

I happen to be "other grandma". When I would call on skype, my son would say it's the other grandma. So that is what stuck with my grandson James. Some ask me if it bothers me. It don't, it is what my geandson likes to call me.

I'm GRAMMY to my 6 yr old grandson WALKER. When his Mother was expecting him and I was trying to decide what to be called I found a braclet @ the mall with GRAMMY on it and knew thats what I was meant to be called. Wouldn't trade that title for all the tea in china.

Grandma, Nannie, Mama were all grandparent names in our family but we have also, Nanna and Nan. It's up to the grandparent, they should decide what they want to be called.

Recently, I was having lunch with my 2 year old granddaughter and someone stopped by our table to say hello and asked my little girl her name and she answered and the woman pointed to me and asked my granddaughter, what's her name and she looked at me and then the woman and said, her name is grandma and my heart swelled with pride and at that moment, it was the best name in the world.

I am Nanny, it is a long held tradition in my family that we are called Nanny, including grandfathers, I adored all my Nannies, and had no trouble referring to my grandfathers as Nanny-Pop(maternal grandfather) and Nanny Wi(paternal grandfather)

I didn't want to be call Grandma at first so I combined Granny with Mimi. . . Grammi. So since she's begun to speak she has called me NeNe (Grammi) and many days Mama because that is what my daughters call me. To make it clear that I'm not her Mommy, I ask her often where or who is her mommy? She will run to her Mommy and either tap her on the leg or call her by name. Really, it doesn't matter anymore, I just love to hear her call for me!!

I have been Mema, Mamma,Gama and when my granddaughter learned to speak better, I became Grandma. This was how she could distinguish the different people being called Grandma. Otherwise she would have been confused. We have 5 living Generations in my family. My Grandmother, my Mom, my Daughter. My Grandmother who is 104 is also named Rose. So she has 2 Grandma Rose's. I'm glad she is 11 now and knows the difference, but my mother is with us a lot and when she says "Grandma" both my mother and I answer either "Yes" or which one? :)

Haven't seen the 12 and 9 years in two years, the 3 year old in over a year. The 19 yr old is in college about 4 hours away, I get to see her every few months. I do miss my other ones though, so far away but we do talk on the phone, just not the same.
