I am haveing my grandaughter staying over with me as she has been unwell with a stomache bug as the doctor said her brother had..My concern is what do you do when a child say's I am hungry I wont be sick..So Mum gave her some tea to eat .now I have had her throw up in my bed what worried me was she was laying down when she was sick.Lucky I was just going to bed she woke up to tell me...so no bed for me as Ameileah who is 6yrs is on the settee me in a chair as I live in a 1 bed flat..I have changed all the bed put washing in and sponged matteress down..I txt her mum to make appoinment for docs cos something is not right she has had this problem since Saturday. No food here with me water only...

i swear by arrowroot biscuits, boring i know but they sem to work, also my doctor once suggested FLAT coke or lemonade but it can't be diet it has to be full sugar. but only a little at a time just enough to wet the throat. i usually let my daughter try a 6th of a biscuit and if that stays down after a couple of hours then maybe a little bit more. i find a good dvd takes her mind of things as well just try and keep the mind busy. Good luck

I have to agree w/ Joan's & Deborah's advice. I would like to add that any time a child is throwing up, keep a plastic tub, large bowl or small wastebasket nearby at all times. This is for the child to throw up in. If the child moves, move the tub as well. That way it is always nearby. You dump the vomit in the toilet & clean it out. Once the child is done being sick, be sure to sanitize the tub.
When I was growing up, my mother had a round tub just for that purpose. She thoroughly cleaned it & stored it away.

My 4 year old had unexplained vomiting.. I found this helpful: For children over 1 year old. Give small amount of water or ice chips 2-3 tsp. (10-15 ml) every 5 minutes. Other options includ lemon-lime flat soda (carbonation makes the tummy "expand" & might cause her to vomit) or popsicles. After 4 hours with no vomiting you can increase the amount. After 8 hours without vomiting you can add bland solids such as saltine crackers, white bread, cereals, rice, mashed potatoes in very small amounts. No matter how much they beg, don't give them more (I know how difficult that is & you feel awful but you have to do what you have to do no matter how much they hate it). I never knew about the 10-15 ml of water every 5 minutes...I was just giving him cups of water which he would promptly thow up. He kept the small amounts of water down, and eventually some toast. Also, try investing in a mattress pad/cover. Belive me it is a life saver when the kids are sick!!!! And also, give her lots of love and comfort snuggles. Good luck and I hope she feels better soon!

hi

when your stomach is upset sometimes water can be the worst thing for you. try some flat soda. maybe black tea also. you should wait until she hasn't thrown up for 2 hrs before trying start with small amts just sips. you could also do popsicles, jello or broth.

you might want to put baking soda on your mattress it will help absorb the odor. vaccum after dry.

good luck
