My daughters Birthday is Aug 22 and she has a party earlier so family can participate ( all family is 3.5 drive away)

Then she has another party for school friends sometime in Sept.

What do other mom's of summer children do?

I have 2 boys with summer bdays. Aug. 24th and Aug. 28th. I always have a family bday because they always have bdays for their kids. After the 10th that might change though. I've also had friend bdays up to their eighth starting at their 5th. And then friend parties will not be every year. My older son (Aug. 28) will probably have his bday party the weekend after labor day because he already has 2 other boys parties to go to, plus back to school, it's a little too much to ask of everybody to throw in another present and activity. It is a hard time of year to schedule a party and ask people to spend more money. I don't think waiting until mid Sept. is bad, gives everyone a breather.

Either have it on the half birthday like Betsy suggested or pick a day to have an "unbirthday" party. If gifts are not what you are after, have your daughter pick a cause. We have had several children in the area who ask for book for the school library or gifts to be donated to the hospital or children's shelter.

When my son was in elementary school, summer birthdays were celebratedd on the 6 month mark in school. Cupcakes or cookies were sent in and they had them in homeroom. July 11 would be January 11.
