I was also thinking about the pregnancy angle. When my son was very little, my husband asked him if he knew where he came from. He said yes, from Mom's tummy. My husband asked how he thinks he got inside Mom's tummy. Hmmm. My husband told him that when he was really, really tiny Mom ate him. My husband forgot to tell our son the correct information, but later that day I couldn't figure out what was wrong. My son seemed upset. When I asked him what was wrong he said "You ate me!" I had no idea what he was talking about (I wasn't around for the earlier conversation) but my husband figured out what was going on and set my son straight. I hope my husband also learned that you can't joke around with young kids like that!

Hmmm if he is curious about the digestive process (as it the Magic Schoolbus went on a trip through a tummy) that is one thing, if he is asking about how you would feel that is such a different question.
I am guessing that if he is still asking then he hasn't received the answer he is going for.
Give him a variety of Disney-esque responses???

i was given advice similar to that about reversing the question, i tried that but he did not answer me but still kept asking me the same question.

Don't worry it. Kids come up with some very odd questions and really only need an age appropriate response. At his age a reassurance is probably fine. Maybe you could ask him what would happen if he ate you? It might give you a clue as to what is going on in his head.
Just a thought.

i agree with that, it could be tv or the internet (my son already uses a computer) but what if he keeps on asking a follow up question of "mom, if you ate me, what would happen to me in the end?" he asked me this just yesterday.

A friend of mine was pregnant and a little one asked her why her belly was so big. My friend replied that she had a baby in her tummy.
The child stood there as a look of absolute horror crossed her face then she ran away screaming "Mommy, that lady ate a baby!"
Kids should NOT be allowed to watch late night TV LOL.

I am wondering if he has been around an older great grandmotherly type lady in the resent past that said something to the effect "You are so sweet I could just eat you up" Children have very good imaginations, this could cause him to ask you this question. I would like so many others have said tell him you would never eat him. For what ever reason you think he needs to hear.

You tell him that you would have to spit him out cause he is just way to sweet and it would make you have a tummy ache

[deleted account]

"Eat you? no WAY! Little boys are made of snips and snails...and puppy dog tails! I wouldn't EEEVER eat a little boy! Have you ever tasted a puppy dog tail? Those things are naaasty! Now little girls...they are made of sugar and spice...I might eat a little girl...but you are safe."

LOL...my 5 year old daughter ask me the very same thing. I told her I couldnt eat her that she was way way to sweet and would give me a tooth ache. She said ok, that would hurt and she didnt want me to have a tooth ache, and ran off to play. Simple as that. Good luck ith your son.

I think I would ask him why he thinks you would want to eat him. Kids at that age ask some of the oddest things. My advice would be to just tell him that you would never eat him. You are his mom and would never do anything to cause him harm and it might hurt him if you tried to eat him. I would also ask him where he got that idea. Kids are exposed to things at such an earlier age now days. I don't think I would worry about it too much. He is just being a child and asking odd questions. Good luck!
