he has a cold and the cough just keeps coming no matter what. Went to the doctor but he says just a cold.

First, how long has he been coughing?  If it's been over two weeks, I think it's more than a cold.  Does he have allergies?  Is his head stuffy, also, or just his chest?  What type of cough is it?  Dry hacking, mucus-filled, coughing spells, occasional cough? Those are some places to start.

We should always relay on the elders, you know the ones like us but had less of choice. Vick's on the neck at bed time, then wrap neck with hand towel, secure it as best you can, safety pin, bandanna, you get the idea, and hot peppermint tea. And yes it my all seem strange but, one more thing,if you put some vick's on the ARCH of the feet then put WOOL socks on.

The cough could be caused by a post nasal drip. Try medicine to dry up the mucus. Rub Vicks on the chest, back and underneath feet. He must try to sleep on his side, lying on your back makes the coughing worse. Try elevating the matress by putting a pillow underneath the matress if the cough occurs mostly while sleeping.

A cold is a virus and just has to run its course.  If cough drops or syrup doesn't help, my mom swears that rubbing vicks on the bottom of your feet cures a cough.

Childrens Musinex plus cough and Vicks helped my boys, we are going on 3 weeks, same thing the doctor said they are fine but the cough won't go away. I also have a humidifier and a vicks waterless humidifier in their room at night.
