Wow, this suits me well!

I have 5 children, the oldest is 26 (can't be true!) with 2 children of her own. Then I have a 23 yr old, a 15 yr old, a 6 yr. old, and a 3 yr. old.

The last baby, since she did not sleep well ever!, seems to have made me feel tired, and drained. Right now I am ready to reclaim myself back to me! I am working to lose some weight by making better food choice and increasing my activity. Lord knows I need to be around for a long time to help my children, and watch them flourish in this wonderful life!

I think it was a surprise to me that I wasn't going to be the spoiling, spending time with the grandbabies kind of grandparent I always dreamed about being!

I hope it helps you to be able to think about it, maybe even talk with your older daughter about it, so she understands too. My daughter is very understanding. I can't help but feel like I'm missing out though.

I do love that my younger children love the grand kids and playing together. It confuses my littlest one; Scarlett, and she starts calling my "grandma" Ugh! I tell her, "no, no I'm your mommy!".

I was thinking about the being a parent and granparent at the same time thing jsut the other day. I am just going to see what happens and hope that Tianie and the new baby once he is older play together really nicely and are close. Im not sure how I will be able to do my grandmotherly duties while, like you am busy parenting my own little one.

Hi Faye -

I do try to embrace the fact that she is the last child for me, and cherish that time I have with her (if only she didn't kick me all night long!)

My daughter is 11 months older than her niece. They really love each other, and love playing together.

The hardest part for me of having a young child AND grandchildren is that I am not able to have the "grandparent" relationship that I would love to have with them. The rules don't change at my house for the grandkids, and finding special time with the grandbabies is so hard when I am doing my own parenting.

HI I am similar to you. I have a 21 yo old daughter who is going to make me a grandma in around 3 weeks, a 18 yo son, a 13 yr old and an 11 month old baby!!
She doesnt sleep brilliantly either, still waking 3 ish times a night which I know is habit but like her mummy milk too much.
I never expected to have the chance again to be a mummy but Im so glad I got to join the club again and am so enjoying being a mummy again
