I much prefer to be called Nanna. Thanks for the invite. My three are older and young adults. 22 this year is my eldest in Amy Rose, 20 this year in my daughter Joanna and my baby who is no longer a baby in 18 at the end of March.

I couldn't stand the thought of grandma at age 34, so I went with nanny. He is almost 14 now and has started calling me momma. I am 48 now and have never been referrex to as grandma, nanny is the best.

I have gone with Elisi (pronounced e lee see) which is Grandmother in Cherokee. Unique and easily recognizable when she calls me, lol.

My granddaughter calls me grandma and her other grandmother Nan. Our children asked us what we wanted to be called when the baby was first born.

As a grandma, You should be able to choose what you want to be called. my oldest is actually 33 and the second is 31. I have my 11 year old grandson living with me and he calls me grandma, but my mom always preferred being called Mom-mom because that was her preference and my da was pop-pop. the other side of the family was granny and grampy. I have some adopted from the internet grands and they prefer nana Linda because that is what they called their grandparents so they call me that. You should be able to request what ever grandparent name you are comfortable with.

My kids call my mother Nonna ever since they could talk. Our ancestry is Italian and that is what I called my grandma and what my mom called her grandma. On my husband's side of my family which is German and Swedish grandma is simply called grandma.

I'm Grandma to my only grandchild but I actually prefer Nanna. I couldn't be called Nanna because it's the middle name of my granddaughter's mother, so would be confusing for the child.

Maybe I can be Nanna to the next grandchild if my other children have children!!

I definately have to be called grandma. My grandma was nanna to her great grand children, so that sticks in my mind.

[deleted account]

I did a lot of research on the subject, in my part of Canada, there isn't a whole lot of names, popular are Grandma, Granny, Nana, Omma. I picked Nana, even though this is my first grandchild she has cousins who call my daughter in laws Mom Grandma, I wanted this little girl to be able to figure out which person people were talking about. I just love it.

My grandsons call me Nanna, they call their Dads mom Granny. My mom they call grandma and the other great grandma they call Mo-mo. I dont know where the heck they got that one from, but I got the best name of the four! MY daughter just told me Mo-mo is Danish!

When my daughter had her first child my first granddaughter we discussed it. To me it came down to what felt comfortable to me and I chose Nanna also but now wish I had chosen something less common. Everybody seems to be Nanna...lol but I love to here them say it. We even went to the internet to look up all granma names it was fun.

I am also Nana, 26 year old daughter with my two grand daughters, almost 3 and just turned 11. My baby girl turned 18 in Jan. My mom is called grandma by all of them. Nana was easier to swallow at that age, at least for me. They wanted to change it to Grandma with the last one, not going to be called two different things by my grand daugthers.

I love being a Nana but the only problem comes is that no one calls you it except family so the grandbabes get confused when people talk to them about their Grandma and Grandpa and they only know you as Nana and Papa.

My friend Elaine always told her grandchildren, "I don't care what you call me as long as you say it with a smile on your face and love in your heart."

I prefer be Nana. I an 41 years old and have an adopted daughter with three girls. The oldest is 7 and she has twin girls that are 2. Nothing feels better than to hear them yelling Nana! I also think I am too young to be called Grandma. Maybe I am wrong , but thats my opinion.

I think I would prefer Nana. Grandma sounds like my mom or grandmother so once my daughter gets a bean in the oven, I'll see...It would be nice just to have a grandchild. What is my daughter waiting for, LOL she'll kill me if she sees this. So ready to be a grandma!!

I wouldn't mind either being called grandma or nana. But grandma reminds me of my mother and grandmother. I think Im more of a Nana. I can't wait for the day my daughter needs to hurry up and get a bean in that oven!!! LOL

My 21 year old has a 21/2 year old girl, she was calling me nana but now it's mommy! I believe it's because she hears her mother and my youngest calling my ma! We don't ever correct her and my daughter doesn't mind. The odd thing is Gianna's father is not in the picture and she was calling my husband, papa in the last week she has started calling him daddy. We look at it like this: every little girl wants a daddy so if it makes her happy and secure then she can continue calling him daddy.

I became a grandmother at age 35 and I thought that was to young to be called grandma. So my grandchildren call me Nana. My oldest granddaughter is 9 and if you refer to me as her grandma, she will correct you and say "that's my Nana".

I have granchildren and they have three sets of granparents! They call his mom nanna, her step mother grandma, and me grandma kathy! This is what i prefer! It sets me apart from all the other grandmas and makes me unique to them. It also keeps me on amore casual basis with them. I am not big on formalities, i believe it builds barriers!

I have four granchildren; 11, 9, 8, and 3. I wanted to be called mamma, but the oldest one could not say it. She called me MomMom. So that is what I am called, except for now, I am raising the three oldest ones and they just call me Mom. The 3 yr old calls me MomMom, but when he stays all night, he ends up calling me Mom also. My husband is called Poppy, also named by the oldest. Wouldn't trade them for anything.

I laugh as I read this, I had grand and glorious plans to be Mimi to my beautiful grand-daughter when she was born. For the first 10 months of her life I and everyone else refered to me as Mimi. Things when swimmingly, until she learned to talk. I had gone to pick her up from day care on afternoon, and on the way home she was chattering and laughing and all of a sudden at around 14 months old, this child whom I love with all my heart, meets my eyes in the rearview mirror as we sit at a light and says in her piping little voice "I love you Granny!" GRANNY!!! Where had this come from, I had chose my name so carefully, nurtured it as I had this child of my child, and what did I get in return? GRANNY??? Now, I wouldn't answer to anything else. So, the best laid plans of mice and men............:))

I'm Nana. My my was Nana to my kids, but she is now known as Nana G. The G being for "great". My Mom's mom was my Nana, so there is no way I could be anything but Nana. ;)
Have a great day!

My children were very fortunate in having two sets of Grandparents and two sets Great Grandparents. And after my children have lost all of their Great grandparents and all but one of their grandparents at a very early age in their life, A nd having to grow up some what quickly. I have come to the realization that life is to short to worry about being called a Grandma because some women are afraid of feeling old. You are only as old as you feel And I feel that after having been there for my children in every way shape and form. I have earned the right and I am very proud to be called Grandma!!! I have two grandchildren one Grandson 5 yrs old and one Granddaughter 2 yrs old. and they are both the light of my life. Especially when all else seems unbearable.

My granddaughter first started calling me memaw but when she got so she could talk more its grandma and my grandson does too. I have a 6 month old grandson so will wait and see. Now I have stepgrandchildren and I talked with my stepdaughter and told her both you and your husband have mothers, so the honor of being called Grandma belongs to them, so with them they all call me Nana... Just as long as its not by my first name. Love them all to death
