I am a physician and while I beleive that medication can be helpful for a few I think that meds are overused because they're easier to throw at a problem than getting to the root. I would first ask myself "what is the reason for the anger problems??" and start from there.

I always look for possible triggers, toxins changing behaviors? What does she like to eat, drink... etc. Does she exercise? What does she do in her free time?
The cleaner we eat, the better we feel, but there are lots of environmental toxins that we are exposed to on a daily basis, some of us more than others. Then you can get into emotional issues...why is she angry? What angers her? Let me know if I can help you more. ;-)

Until last year I would have been against it, but sometimes we have to look past our own opinion and look at why it is given. My son takes meds and truly needs them to cope with everyday life. He was attacked and has brain injury which prevents him from emotionally cope with some things of everyday life. I believe that some of the teens on meds really do need them while others use it as a quick fix.

I don't have any experience with the meds but I have a lot with angry teenagers. It would seem to me that the goal has to be to get to the root of the anger if that's the issue or to teach appropriate venting options if handling anger is the issues. I hate the idea of medicating away a problem, but I also know how awful it is to deal with rage and how scary it can be. Is alcohol or drugs a factor?
