hi my son has been diagnosed with ADHD , ODD, TIC DISORDER, AND PANIC AND ANXIETY DISORDER,! he is 9 years old and we have had numerous assesments, but no actual help with him. My big problem at the moment is bed time. We have had problems with this since he was born! The thing at the moment is..he is scared of ghost! (we found out tonight) but every night he has to have me lie with him until he gets to sleep which can be hrs! he then wakes most nights and i have to lie with him again for up to an hr to get him off again. im at my wits end any ideas please?

Are there any more ADHD children, besides mine, who are still wetting the bed? My son is 8 and we are still having issues with it, especially when he comes back from his fathers (we are divorced). I use a Kylie (hospital pad) and have stopped using pull-ups because of the cost. I believe it's like any other issue with him, it will take time but it will happen. It bother's him, though. Any advice would be appreciated... Thanks

I have 8 year old twins that have ODD, ADHD and anxiety. No 2 days are ever the same and most the times they take turns acting up but there are sometimes they act up at the same times. Times like that I want to pull my hair out even more. They are also very aggressive. They hit, bit, scream, throw stuff. And not only do this to each other but also to me. They see a family therapist and have psychologist that diagnosed their conditions and there on Adderall for there ADHD. Does anyone else have a child or children that are also aggressive? Some days I feel very alone in this struggle with them. And being a single mom I'm sure doesnt help. And my oldest son also has Aspergers. So I have a full plate I guess you'd say...lol.

I just joined this group. I too have an 8yr old boy with ADHD and ODD and possible bipolar. I've read some very wise comments on this page. My son has been going to a psycologist since he was 4 and nothing was really helping. He has been on Ritalin and on Lamictal for 2yrs and lately his outburst and mood swings were worst than ever. To that we can add the fact that I was in the hospital due to a bronchitis and he developed Separation anxiety disorder.School has always been a nightmare ever since he was two. This past week I ended taking him out of school and keeping him at home and doing homeschooling (he was getting physically abused by one of the administrator) At least now he wants to learn and his stress level has gone down. Well I change his therapist (psycologist) and its been wonderful this professional is specialized in children and boy does it make a difference. So the ladies that mentioned to be sure that he psycologist needs to specialize in children are very correct, the previous psycologist and psychiatrist were always blaming me for his behavior saying I was not doing enough. I am very happy to have found this group at least now I know I am not alone

we just got the results of my daughters neuropsych testing. She has definite ADHD as well as ODD and a language based reading disability. She is also now high risk for dyslexia. I have been very lucky that her school is doing everything that needs to be done and the neuropsychologist was impressed that they are usually doing it. She is on Ritlin LA right now and seems to be doing much better not talking back to the teacher and talking while the teacher is talking. We are still struggling with home work but I am so glad we decided to get this done it makes me feel better to know what we are dealing with.

the psychologist is specialized in Child psychology and has also refered her to a neuropsychologist  for an official diagnosis. the ritlin LA has made a huge differnce she can actually sit through dinner which is something she could never do. she also does not get as frustrated when doing homework

Let me just say, school is much different than it used to be. Children are expected to fit the norm even though teachers are trained to teach to the child's learning style. Teacher's hands are tied. I know because I was one. I chose to go in a different direction after 15+ years of teaching.

The Connor's scale has been the way schools have tested for ADD/ADHD for years and years. It is a paper rating scale that is done by the teacher of the child and the parent. Scores from penciling in "typical" behaviors are rated to determine a diagnosis. While this test is used in diagnosing your child with a clinical psychologist, it is not the only means used. Be SURE the clinical psychologist is trained to work with children. It really makes a difference.

Hi everyone

I am a mom of a 6yr old daughter whom we are having a neuropsych eval in MArch as she has been having issues in school with attention and she is very opositinal. I have ADD and I so see myself in her my mother also pointed out that as a Chold I had ODD. Her councilor had me do what they call a connor scale which shows the likelyhood that a child may have certain dissablilites. according to that she scored highly likely for ADHD (combined type) and also showed as being opositional.  She is in first grade but learning wise is behind her class. she is at an end of kindergarten reading lvl. Her scholl has been great but her IEP is only for speech and language I agree with Kim about going outside the school for a diagnosis as you have control of who gets the info first. We are at this point trying Ritlin LA with her before the neuropsych eval to see if this helps her focus. It is nice to know I am not alone

Today's my first day with this group. I have "just turned" 6 yo son who has mild ADHD and has tested in the high average/superior IQ range. He's in kindergarten and is giving his teacher fits. Sometimes I think it's because he's bored but know that ADHD plays a part in his inability to sit still or walk like a little soldier in a line. He's frustrated easily when he feels someone is not listening or undertanding.

I'm not sure how you guys determined your child was ADHD or ODD but may I suggest, if you haven't already, have your child tested by a clinical psychologist and don't rely on the simply paper test schools use to diagnose. They are only as accurate as the person filling out the paperwork.

A little about me . . . I'm a former teacher (15+ years experience) and now work from home so I'm accessible for my son (home when he is, available to volunteer for field trips, special school events, etc.).

I'm looking forward to hearing from other moms in this group.

Asperger's Syndrome is a form of Autism. You can find all the deets about it online - just Google. There are many behaviors that are autistic like but others that are similar to ODD.

Hi everyone i am a newbie to this but think the circle of mums thing is brilliant. I am the mum of a profoundly deaf 17 year old who was dignosed with Severe ADHD since he was 6 years old. It is such a really hard disability/illness to live with and no two days are the same and can drive us mums to dispair at times whom have to deal with it day in day out i think we all deserve our own National Day MUMS OF CHILDREN WITH ADHD a national respite day

My son has been diagnosed with minor ADHD and definite ODD. I am still learning all of the small little things he does are not manipulative but they are in fact defiant. Like not getting ready for bed when asked or getting ready for school in the morning. My son will be 6 next week.

Hello, I am very new to joining groups so I don't really know all of the rules and stuff.I have a 5 year old who was just Rx with ADHD and ODD. His ADHD is on the very low scale but his ODD is very recognizable. I am at a loss sometime with how to deal with him because he just fights back with yelling. My nerves get raw sometimes and I deal with my anxiety very unhealthy. Thankfully I don't hit my kids.
