Hi there,

My name is Kate, I have a beautiful baby boy, Samuel Aidan who was born on 26th May 2009.
He was diagnosed at my 20 weeks scan with a unilateral cleft lip and palette. After getting over the initial shock and grief, I have come to learn A LOT about this condition and its history.
Sam has been feeding well with a Pigeon bottle since birth :) I have managed to give him exclusively expressed breast milk for the first 3 1/2 months of his life and have only now just started to incorporate formula and slowly introducing solids which he loves!
We are expected to go to surgery at the end of October hopefully, which will repair his lip and hard palette and to return next year for surgery on his soft palette. Our life consists of constant hospital appointments and checkups.
Sam is a lovely, smiley, happy, placid baby who brings an unbelievable amount of joy to myself and my husband and everyone he meets. He is my special angel and the apple of my eye :)
I would love to hear from other mummies, daddies, aunts, uncles, sisters, brothers anyone who has anything to say :)

Hear from you soon :)

Hi Kate
I have a little boy Jaiden born on 25 March 09 with a Bilateral Cleft Lip and Palate. I was also ultrasound detected and went through similar feelings mainly freaking out that my boy at 12 weeks would undergo a general. Well since then he has undergone both surgeries(I felt the palate was worse) and is walking and sayiing a word here and there. How did your surgeries go?

Hi Kate. I don't have a child with a cleff palette but one of my friends is adopting a baby with one. I was wondering if you could give me some advice for her. I just don't want her to be shocked when the baby is born. Her and her family is in denile because they found it on the ultra sound but the dr.s said they couldn't be 100% sure so they are looking at it as the baby is fine. The baby is going to be born in afew days. I know they will love the baby no matter what I just wish i could help her prepare for the baby. Any advice you could give me would greatly appreciated. Thank you.
