Just curious if there's any guitar playing mom's out there. I play acoustic, and it's the most easily transportable, fun instrument to engage children with. Would love to hear your experiences and what you like to play. I enjoy playing a lot of Laurie Berkner and Justin Roberts on guitar. How about you?!

Im learning bass guitar at the moment. My husband plays electric guitar, mainly rhythm.
We just bought our nearly 4 year old son an acoustic that he is going to get for his birthday.
We are a music loving family. We are trying to find a drum kit to buy. We also have a violin that we play with, but none of us can play it very well, lol.

Thanks for everyone's comments... it's so cool to be a musical mom, isn't it? SInce I last posted, my family created a new children's CD, "Criss Cross Applesauce." I hope you'll check out our music at www.deniseforney.com or on Facebook, Denise Forney - Early Childhood Recording Artist. It's been such a blessing to write and perform music with my children. God bless all of you! :)

I started taking lessons when I was 12 and still have the first two guitars I ever owned.
my electric Fender lead ( certain they dont make that anymore) and my acoustic a Sigma.
over the years others have been bought and sold...
I started a band when I was 15 with my best friend at the time and a few girls we knew
we covered artists such as Heart, Benatar, Blondie, Go-Go's (lol) Joan Jett..ect..
I started playing because I sing and wanted to put down all the stuff i had in my head ..
Still play today and my husband and I are working on a new project...
when its inside you .. you have to let it out...

I've played guitar since I was 12 - have a Sigma (the Korean Martin:) 6-string solid top that plays nicely. I play mostly folk stuff - I'm into Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Gillian Welch, Greg Brown etc..Bonnie Raitt - can't forget Bonnie...

Hey all!
I've been playing guitar since I was 11 and haven't gone more than 6months without at least a strum (when I was preggie of course).
My son and I love to hear the strings hum even if it doesn't sound so great kids make wonderful little musicians! I play anything from Goo Goo Dolls to Eva Cassidy and even though I may not be that good we always have a ball. My son is almost 2 and is getting the hang of why your fingers move around like they do on the strings, hopefully he'll pick it up one day. I say hopefully because his dad is about as musical as a toothpick! But he loves music, bless!

Anyway, keep tuning, singing and flowing...
Much love to all,
H

I LOVE Laurie Berkner! The first song I learned to play was "Mahalo" and then from there I started learning some of my favorite songs.... like Stand By Me, Stir It Up.... My husband is so good at guitar I have been afraid to go for it, but once I got my Luna guitar it just seemed natural. They are fit so much better for women... smaller. Our basement was a studio for a while, but we lost a lot of our instruments and the computer set-up. We have a collection going though... 3 violins, a dulcimer, a few hand drums, ukes, flute, clarinet, trumpet, guitars, accordion, and a bunch of other random things! I love it :-) My kids are pretty young, but that doesn't stop them from trying to get into different things. My son blew in the trumpet for the first time when he was just about 2 and I was shoked he made a better sound than I did! Music is such a great way to connect with your kids.... and a great form of expression. I'm so excited to find this group!

I play bass guitar mostly at church (we have a contemporary rock/worship band) I love praising God using my ability in music (especially since I started on clarinet at 10). We love Kutless, Casting Crowns, & Chris Tomlin.... when things get stressed music is my relief and helps me connect better with my personal "worship time" with God. My hubby plays accustic and he & I sing together a lot as well; some at our church, some at other churches in the area.
