My 4 year old son has CP. He can walk but has AFOs and he cannot run or jump consistently yet. I have started him on adaptive swim lessons, and did a surfer healing mini camp yesterday. I am looking into hippotherapy.. and was wondering if any one else has any kind of experience regarding alternative therapies. I need some tips.
He is currently seeing an occupational, physical, and speech therapy on a regular basis.

Hippoherapy is great! My son loves it and I see improvement. He also uses Theratogs and participated in a study Stanford did on myofascual integration which significantly improved his abilities!

My son didn't walk independently until he was 5. He started Tae Kwon Do and made huge strides. It is done barefoot and you really develop the muscles in your feet. It worked on his balance, co-ordination and most importantly self-confidence. While my son still sees an OT,PT and SLP he has amazed all of us. As his balance improved so did his speech. It had a huge effect on everything he does. He is now 14 rides a bike, snowboards, swims and is a black belt. His speech is still coming but we couldn't be more pleased. Get him involved in inclusive activities and never set limits. Mix it up and keep it fun and it won't seem like so much work for him. Good luck!

we are excited we haven't even pick it up yet. But we got a great deal and we knew we needed to do something we have n health coverage for pt or ot and dh got laid off in march so our little one doesn't get much or therapies she really needs. hopefully this will help

hi we have a 5 yr old girl with pvl spastic dyplagia and serve hypotonia from the hips up. no hippotherapy here so we just bought a minature horse that has been trained for this.
