Kudos for writing this Kim! You are so right about having to decide if you are going to start a business...do you want hobby money or an income? Health care is a big concern and there are so many people without coverage and out of work. I work with a 20yr old company that has an A+ rating with the BBB and they have a solution for both, the bonus is we get to help others!....If you want to choose a business and not a hobby. This is so true - I have done several home base companies and nothing feels as good as the one I am part of now. I get to show moms how to cook healthy and fast. So they can enjoy the kids sporting events, concerts, or just having fun in the yard more. An all natural food company that believes in praising you to acheive the most. Honestly it is so easy, no inventory for you to keep, and they ship directly to the customer so you don't have to. Please contact me if you want more info. I love your message! And you're absolutely right! Serious business, definitely! I learned years ago that if you will truly treat your business like a business and not a hobby, then you will be paid like a business owner. I would much rather be paid like an owner. I know many other moms and baby boomers are looking for the same.

I work f/t and have a f/t side business. I practically work about 80 hours a week. Though that will change after my daughter. I think any business can turn into a lucrative business but you must gain a good business background (or have someone help) to truly be successful. With any one running their own business, it should be something you enjoy doing because being an entrepreneur is a labor of love. I don't think health products are the only lucrative business ventures. I've been in the graphic and web design business for 8 years and plan to be in this for another 30! :) I say entreps should have fun, work hard, and love their product/service.

I think of you are serious about a Home Based Business then it should be doing something you love, helping people, and it really doesn't matter if it's a health product, or shoes. Just give them what they want, help others make money and you will be Successful in every way that matters. Treat it as a business and not a hobby and then have fun with it

WOM (word of mouth) brings more clients than anything else for me. True it is slow, and I've had the privilege of not having to have to replace a fulltime income when the kids were small, but it certainly helps growing a business solidly.

I know that slow and steady wins the race and I pray that my patience remains as I build.  I keeping telling myself that a quality (not quick) approach will be the most lucrative in the long-term...so patience, patience, patience!

I too have recently started a health & wellness distributorship, with the boomers being my target demographic.

My mindset & plan for my business is quite serious as my first goal is to replace my full-time income. 

I've learned that a crucial factor that facilitates taking one's business beyond product discounts is to establish credibility, without pitiching to your audience, via your marketing channels.

Currently, I am working on a website with the deliberate intent to set me apart as someone that has valuable information and/ or solutions to offer my "following" (so-to-speak). 

Everyone is being "sold" all day long. Therefore it is too easy to blend in with all of the other pitches that they see every day.

Once my site is up and running, I'd love to receive feedback from you more seasoned entrepreneurs as I am always open to learn and grow.

Health is fine if you're interested in a retail business.

I run my own company and have for many years. My skills and abilities make a service company a more suitable vehicle to me. It is definitely a business.

Good question! I work full time and have a few side businesses that I would like grow into serious businesses. I recently started a networking group for women entrepreneurs and we also do 3 vendor fairs each year. That is the business that I'd really like to see grow, but it's been a rough start thanks to the economy! (suggestions appreciated!) I also just became a consultant with a company called Just Jewelry. I guess I'd have to say "serious" to both, but at the same time I enjoy the socialization they provide, so really it's a bit of both. How's that for not answering!
