We will be moving to N.O. this summer with 2 kids. (8&5 years)
I have already researched the complicated school system and I guess we missed out on the lottery for the better schools.
Any advice? What schools are good, which ones should we avoid?
I have talked to the RSD and NOPSB offices and both said that we can't do anything until we get there in June and will be assigned/offered left-over spots. It's frustrating!
I have found the school rankings on the LA Dept. of Education website, but numbers alone might not tell the whole story.
Some schools also are relatively new and not ranked yet.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Thanks, we just arrived in NOLA on Thursday. We will tackle the school issue tomorrow. I have downloaded a list of all public and charter schools from the Dept. of Education of LA website and includes ratings and test scores for each schools. I have already contacted some of the good ones, but they are all full. Well, we missed the lottery. We will look at some of the charter schools in our area tomorrow, and we also have an appointment to visit a catholic school. Wish us luck! We live near Tulane.

Hello, welcome to NOLA!
Belle chasse primary school is awesome! Its rated very good, even though it's public school. Teachers and stuff are great! My daughter loves it. And belle chasse only in 20 mints drive from super dome.
All I know about uptown and downtown new Orleans public schools that they are not really good, all my friends who live in town go to private schools.
Good luck!)
