Has anyone here practiced EC? A month ago I worked on it for a week after reading up a bit at tribablbaby.com, and now I have the book "Diaper Free" by Ingrid Bauer that I'm trying to read when I have time. (Time? What's that?) The week I worked on it we were doing pretty well--I mostly ended up with DD peeing all over me, as that was the best way I could watch for her "cues" in order to make the cue sound. We successfully caught two pees in the bathroom sink by day two. After my days off work, though, I ended up working 6 days in a row, and didn't end up practicing when I was home.
We've gotten out of the habit of practicing, and I want to start again. I've even bought her a little BabyBjorn travel potty to hold her over . I had her sit on it for about 10 minutes one morning while daddy was taking his shower (we like to have her hang out in the bathroom while we shower anyway, usually in her bouncey chair, so the warm vapors can help her stuffy nose) and she peed twice, which was really exciting!

Anyways, I'm just seeing if anyone else here has played around/been successful with EC.

We've had great success ECing with our 6-month old daughter. We started a few weeks after birth. We set up a potty spot with a mirror for her to look at herself and so we can see her potty muscles working and what cue sounds to make. She loves looking at herself and flashes big grins during potty time. We have even started introducing the sign for potty. I highly recommend using a mirror. ECing in the bathroom sink or on a potty on the bathroom counter in front of a mirror works great too.

hi. yes, i am ecing with my 6 month old, have since birth, and started my 2nd son at 8 months old - he's now 5 1/2 years old. i think it's great that you can start babies at any age and do it as much or as little as you want.

it was hard starting my 2nd son at 8 months. it was winter adn he was so used to going in his nappy. so i just used to make the cue sound when i would notice him going. lots of pants changes, but he eventually got it. spending outside time with no pants is great in the warm weather. he became aware of his body adn was out of nappies totally around 18 months in the day adn around 2 during the night. he has never had accidents at night time since.

it's going really well with my present 6 months old. i am tuned into his cues most of the time. i tend to hang him over the bathroom sink, or outside in the garden. he will relax and go if he needs to, straighten his legs if he doesn't. i still get peed and pood on at times. we sometimes even do no nappy when we go out now. i'm not really good at it, so will use a cloth nappy so i can change him straight when i notice he is wet so he doesn't get used to sitting in wet.

i do love it and to see my baby (and me) getting it, communicating and the awareness about his body is exciting. it's so nice for him to not be stuck in a dirty nappy. however i do use a disposable at night. i just want to sleep then. will rise to that challenge one day. i found Ingrids book really great and used to read it when i was breastfeeding.

That happened to us too. It didnt' really help that when the six year old was 5 months, I had a giant poop miss in my parents' living room.

Quoting Renee:

We do it with diaper back-ups and only at home. We offer the potty after waking up and at diaper changes. It has been pretty fun so far although none of our friends believe us and the in-laws had to see it in action to believe it was possible.

We also do diaper back-ups and practice EC with our 7 month old only when we're home or at my parents' house.  We started when he was 2 months old.  When we told our family and friends about it, they looked at us like we were freaks!  Eventually, my parents accepted our "unconventional ways" and even help us bring our son to the potty.

I ec'd both my daughters!! It was the best choice we had ever made!!

Now at 2 and 3 years old both are fully potty trained night and day.

The youngest picked up on it very quickly.

BBLP was the best investment!!

I've been working on it too, since my daughter was around 3-4 months.  It's gone pretty well until recently. I don't take it too seriously, it happens when we have time.  And I don't really practice when we are out because she's wearing too many clothes in the cold.  But I am hoping to get going in the summer when she doesn't have to be so bundled up.  I'm not really hardcore enough to get the diaper-free clothes that are available.

Yes. I have had great sucess with it.  My kids never had an issue with potty "training." Peeing and pooping in the potty  (or under a tree!) was just something they naturally did like breathing almost.

I've always thought it sounded interesting, though I've never really had the time to take with it.  I've been interested this time around with that reading child's cries thing, and want to watch my newborn when he gets here to see if I can do it, but I'm not sure how well it will work out for me going to grad school and working part time (hopefully).  Keep us up on how well it goes for you, I think it's facinating!
