Has anyone done tandem co-sleeping?

Hi all, I'm an APer of a 22 month old with one on the way. I'm new but have been reading through some of the posts. I'm just thinking about how to do bedding arrangements when the next one comes along...

So I was just wondering if anyone has co-slept with a baby and a toddler? How did it work out for you?

My kids are 32 months apart and we did tandem co sleeping. They are now 6 and 3 and still end up coming in our bed at night ( they do start the night in their own bedrooms though )......we all just sleep better if we are all in the same room.

Our 2nd daughter was 4 when her baby brother was born and "sleeping in her own bed" but often coming to our bed at night. She still does, although she's going on 6! It's getting a bit crowded now, so I usually take her back to bed, but stay for a minute to rub her back or hold her hand. It's working alright so far.

Anyone else annoyed with Circle of Moms' automatic "related videos?" I'm reading this message with "The Importance of Breaking the Habit of Co-sleeping" and "How to Set a Healthy Sleep Schedule for Kids" at the bottom. Umm, how about "co-sleeping is great, so why stop?" and "Put your kid to bed when he's tired, or he'll be crabby." Those fit with my AP philosophy. On my cloth diapering board, half of the videos are sponsored by Pampers. *sigh*

We put rails on the bed so that the children could sleep on the outside and my husband and I could sleep in the middle together. When you have a toddler and a newborn its hard to see each other at all so this helped. My toddler is a squirmer so I felt the baby would be safest with two adults in between that my oldest would have to climb over.

It only took our toddler two days to get used to the noise of the baby waking despite everyone telling us what a bad idea it was it was great

I tandem co-sleep. It's myself, my 2 year old, and my 4 month old in my queen size bed. I have us all sleep the opposite of the normal way...i can't explain it, but i put my 2 year old against the wall then my back is to her and i curl my body around the way, then when i nurse her at 4 am i hop on the other side of her...it works for us, we all get pretty good sleep

I want a king size bed, because I'm thinking I may be co sleeping with 2 by the end of the year..
My 3rd didn't start co sleeping with us until she was 9mths. She was happy to sleep in her crib, right alongside our bed.
That is where my 4mth old is currently sleeping. Seeing as there were no signs my girl would co sleep at that age, I have no idea if he will stay in his crib or want to come in with us too.
My 2yr old is still in our bed.

If having the baby in the crib/bassinet near your bed isn't an option, maybe a co sleeper bed is?

I co-slept with, and still do with both of my children. My oldest was 23 months when our youngest was born. My oldest sleeps everywhere on the bed. He sleeps sideways, hanging off the bed, and even on top of my husband. To keep him from rolling onto the baby we used a co-sleeper made especially for the bed. It has raised sides and looks like a really little bed. It even has a nighlight attached for middle of the night feedings. It really helped in keeping my son from trying to sleep on his brother. Now the baby's 7 months and they both sleep between my husband and I, usually wrapped around eachother.

haha... i've heard of people ditching their bedframes and just pushing matresses together on the floor so there's enough room for everyone.

I co-slept with a baby and 3 yr old, and still do. I put them on opposite sides when my daughter was small so my son wouldn't roll on her.I love family beds!!

I agree that waking up to those sweet baby faces is the best thing ever! We have had 4 in the bed for almost 2 months now and so far so good... I was worried about the girls continuously waking each other up, but it hasn't happened, they both just sleep right through if the other wakes up. My older daughter is 18 months and wasn't sleeping through the night consistently until we brought Sadie home and now she does, so go figure.... Our older daughter sleeps between my husband and I and the baby sleeps on the other side of me, where the co sleeper is. Occasionally one of them sleeps in the co sleeper but not usually :)

Hey!!  We meet again!  Yes, I did have two babies in my bed!  The 2 year old b/c he didnt want to be alone and the baby.  It worked for about 2 days.  Every time the baby woke up, so did Mason!  We all got even less sleep then we had before!  Oddly enough, the baby prefers to sleep alone in his bassinet, so we were able to let the 2 year old stay.  I hope it goes better for you b/c there is really nothing sweeter than waking up to your kids sleepy faces!

My older son sleeps in the middle (3 1/2) and I have a sidecar sleeper for the baby that's due in May.  He's been somewhat interested in his own bed lately but we just moved apartments so he's still needing some security right now since its all a little weird to him right now.  My older son has slept between us since he was around 2 to 2 1/2 though.

I cosleep with my one year old. My mattress is on the floor, so when my nephew spends the night (he's three) I pull the toddler bed mattress beside mine and he sleeps there with no problem. Its a full house but it works.

My daughter had already moved out of the family bed by the time we had her baby sister but we have an open bed policy and sometimes she'd fall asleep with us after family movie night so we occasionally had all of us in bed. We had a few solutions. Sometimes I slept in the middle, older daughter on the side and baby by the wall, my husband usually elected to sleep in a different room on these nights. You might want to look into bedrails since your toddler is younger than mine was (she was almost 4 when I had her sister). We also had a cosleeper. The baby didn't mind sleeping in it and when the big girl wanted to sleep with us, we'd put the baby in there. A "Snuggle Nest' might also minimize the risk of the big one rolling onto the little one. There are some who would suggest that a older child should never sleep with a baby because their sleeping patterns are not as tuned into the newborn as the mother's. That is not for me to bring up now, though, but something you might want to think about.
