My son is almost 5 and I have be potty training him for almost a year now. He hasnt even gone pee in it yet. I am out of ideas to teach him. can anyone help me? I really want him to be potty trained before my third baby arrives in a few months. My daughter is 3 and I wanted to get her started on it to but my son refuses to even sit on the potty so I'm waiting to train her until I get him trained. Any ideas please let me know.

My son was hard to train too, and I really think the daycare lady scared him into it.  Along with others making fun of him, he was the only one in a pull up (he was 4.5 years old at the time).  We used a sticker chart since he then started only using the potty at school.  Yes, stubborn.  But he did get excited about the chart....5 potties/stickers and he hot a prize (something cheap like from the dollar store).  Then I moved to 6 potties for a prize and eventually 7, and stopped there once he finished the page.

i started to introduce the potty to my daughter at 2 n she is now fully potty trained and going through the night dry. all i can say is that if he doesnt want to go on the potty try the toilet seat because my daughter while she was being potty trained went off her potty so we brought the toilet seat and she used it because she see us using the toilet. also let ur son maybe see his dad going on the toilet and he may want to go so that he can be like his dad. but i think no matter if your son wont start your daughter off now because the earlier you start the potty training the more easier it is to get them interested in the potty. if not have you tried him with the fisher price fun to learn potty so that it is like a game to him and try to encourage him to go on it and when he does go on it clap and praise him afterwards because my daughter when we started clapping after she had been on it thought it was a great game and even when she didnt need it she still sat on it because of this. hope this helps you out carole

Maybe if your son sees your daughter doing it on a toilet he will catch it? It sounds simple but I let my son choosee the potty himself, I bought three - for our house and two for the gandmas that live in our town and then it started to work. However, he peed but he couldn't make himself to do no 2, then he went to the nursery and seeing all the children doing it he stopped being scared. So the example could be quite a good thing.

I've been potty training for a little while now, and thankfully, it's been successful. We didn't find that any real "tricks" worked with us. It was just a matter of leaving him in regular underwear around the clock and just dealing with all the messes. The first two weeks were dreadful. I mean, honestly dreadful. But after that, he started to get it. One of my friends recommended Cheerios in the toilet (for boys, of course). Aim for the Cheerios kind of deal. It sounds like a great idea, though I never actually tried it.

My son was scared of the toliet so my ex-husband took him out side and let his "water the plant" or "squirt the dirt"! He thought that was the best thing ever but we told him he could only do that at home and he was only allowed to do it IF he used the potty everywhere else.
