any suggestions to help my daughter deal with being the only girl in the family. Out of all the cousins there is the only ONE girl and she is much older. My son's often exclude my daughter in play (she does love to torment) and it really upsets her. She has referred to herself as the lonely girl ( i think she means ONLY girl) and she gets quite tearful about it. I often take her to do girl things with mummy when they wont play with her. Short of trying for another daughter...lol. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

When she refers to herself as the "only" girl, turn it around and say something like "Yes and isn't it fantastic?? You are so unique and special because of it!" I grew up with all brothers, boy cousins (except for 1 girl step-cousin who I didn't see much of and that I was always compared to). It is tough but I got through it and your daughter will too. PS, we have 1 daughter and 4 boys so my little girl will go through this also when she is older. Good luck!

Are you a member of a playgroup or anything? That could really help, associating her with children her own age and gender! ^_^ Also, some special mommy and me time.
