Irritable hip has been a diagnosis for us last year. It is a diagnosis of exclusion, I'm guessing your doctor would have done some imaging of you childs hip to check for perthe's disease and other nasties. My 4 yr old had an episode last yr that my Gp said she thought was irritable hip. its basically when you have hip pain or problems and they don't know what it is. seems a bit weird, but I've learned over the past couple of yrs that Dr don't know as much as they like us to think we do, and some conditions that are common amongst certain age groups are given a syndrome name and are a 'recognised condition' but they don't really know what causes it etc. They will apparently grow out of it. We found taking our daughter to the chiro helped loosen her hip up again, but we haven't had recurring problems.

Was she breach? My son was and our pediatrician does a "hip check" at every appointment...she said hip issues can be more common w/ a bottom down baby...
