My little man will be turning 1 on the 20th of November! Just wondering if anyone has any healthy cake recipes or ideas. I try not to feed him any sugar and want to stay away from super sweet sugary cake so his system doesn't go into overload! Any suggestions? I heard to use whipped cream instead of cake icing, but that is as far as I've gotten.

I had the some worries when my son turned one. I baked a cake, using a diabetic recipe that my mum found me. it used orange juice and little bit of sugar. All the kids loved it and the adults too.

I went to a local bakery in my town and told them to make a cake as if the person was a diabetic. I, like you, didn't want my daughter to have any sugar. I have to admit, the cake wasn't the best thing I have tasted, but in all honesty she had more fun just playing in it then anything else. But just in case they eat a little, atleast you don't have to worry. Happy b-day to your son !!!!

A friend of mine recommended baking a cake...don't remember which kind and using cool whip and crushed pineapple for the topping.

My twin boys were 1 on 11/2 and I used the whipped cream instead of icing and it worked really well! And they loved it. I sweetened it with only a 1 tsp of vanilla and 1 tsp of sugar for a cup of heavy cream. Just keep the cake in the fridge after you "ice" it until a little before you serve it. Keeps the whipped cream from melting. I made them each their own chocolate cakes shaped like cupcakes. They really didn't eat much of the cake- more of the whipped cream. Good Luck!

Why not do something like a carrot cake or banana cake using fruit to sweeten (like apple butter). It will be tasty, and you don't have to add any additional sugar to it.
