My husband just created a great play area for our 1 year old son. He has been walking since 10.5 months and loves to climb and navigate uneven territory. We used the inflatable summer pool (10' x 6' x 22 inches) and put an inflatable mattress in part of it (for a moon walk like area) and plastic play balls in the other area. He now has his own ball pit and moon walk indoors and safe. It will be great for those cold winter days when we can't go to the park.

DS did try to climb out, but it's he gets a little too much momentum and can't hang on so he "prefers" to be lifted out. We showed him the way to swing one leg over, not sure if he has really gotten that yet.

Thanks for the info! I cannot install the inflatable pool, but I am thinking I could use the pack and play (we have a big square one) and fill it up with some balls.

what a great idea! does he try to climb out the top of it?

my daughter is a climber too. it cracked me up the first time i realized that. i was at the base of the stairs folding towels and 'trapping her' with me in the landing by using the laundry basket and my body. well she just smiled and went to the stairs and started climbing without skipping a beat! thank goodness she didnt fall, i was behind her just in case, but laughing so hard i might have fallen while catching her!

The plastic balls are sold at Toys R Us. They come in bags of 100. My DS is enjoying his ball pit, hope yours does too!

That sounds like fun! I am sure my boy would love something like that. Where did you find the plastic balls?
