Oh how I wish I had you late walkers!! My boy took his first unaided steps on the 4th of July, or at 8 months. He's been running ever since, or at least until he broke his leg... *sigh*

My 15 mo old daughter started walking at 9 months. My boys both started walking about that same age. My cousin's children all started walking between 13 and 18 mos. I'm not sure if there's any validity to it but my aunt, who is a nurse, pointed out that my kids were all shorter babies and my cousin's babies were all taller, (My boys are now taller than hers! Funny how things work out.) and that the center of gravity in shorter babies makes it easier for them to walk earlier? Also, not sure why but none of my kids ever really crawled. My oldest rolled everywhere starting at about 3 or 4 mos...that was pretty funny to see actually. My other two scooted for a couple days and then pulled themselves up and started cruising and then walking shortly afterward.

Not sure about that teeth therory...my kids all got teeth early too.

My son started walking at 12.5 months. He was a late crawler (didn't crawl until 9.5 months). There's usually nothing to worry about as long as a child walks by 18 months. Some babies are more cautious and don't quite have the confidence to let go yet.

Jamie first toddled on my birthday in January and is progressing quickly. Tonight he was walking back and forth across the room and gradually increased to a run! Oh dear I think I may have my work cut out!

Hoping to encourage you here!

My firstborn did not walk until he was a week shy of 16 months old... that is, he took more than 5 steps in a row and it was all downhill from there.   My second-born (the Nov 2007 baby), however, has been walking since he was just over a year old, which amazed me.  I keep watching him and thinking back to when Nicholas was his age.. he would've been army-crawling still.  Neither of my boys have displayed developmental delays.  Remember they are working on gross motor skills like walking as well as the mental and social skills... so she may have gotten to a certain point in her walking and decided to work on her speech for a while or something... who knows.  =)  Try not to worry.

My little one is still not walking either! She is 15 months and is walking assisted but not alone yet either. I have asked a lot of other mother's advice on this as well and they all tell me every baby is different and they will do it when they are ready. Hope this helps but your deffinitly not the only one!

My son is going to be 15 months and not walking yet. But my daughter started walking just before 16 months. I think some kids just take a little longer but once they decide to catch up they do it in leaps and bounds. But I do find it comforting that other Moms stuggle with the same worries as me.

my daughter didn't start walking really well till the week before her first birthday and I was concerened because we walked with help all the time then she just started going by herself we didn't force anything with it because we didn't want her to think we just wanted her to walk. When your daughter takes a step by herself praise her that seemed to help us alot!!!

Gavin is not walking yet unassisted.  The only reason I'm not really worried is b/c my daughter didn't walk until she was about 18 months or so.  If she is walking unassisted or even standing on her own (which Gavin is doing now) it will be any day.  They always seem to surprise you by just deciding to do it.  So have that camera ready!!!

Don't worry, give her some time to learn. :)
My boy started to walk unaided at about 11 months old. His developments are quite fast. Now at 15 months, he's learning to talk and able to say a lot of words.

My daughter started pulling herself up on things and walking around things when she was about 7 months old. But she didn't actually start walking un-assisted until she was 10 months old.

My son, however, started out the same as her, but decided to let go and walk at 8 months.

I wouldn't worry - I have twins (born at 33 weeks), one only started crawling at 12.5 months and is still not walking at 15.5 months, the other does not crawl at all, she bum shuffles. They all do it in their own time and the advice I have been given is that as long as s/he is weight bearing at 12 months there is nothing to worry about!

My son just started walking the first week of Feb (at 15 months). He wasnt doing any walking aside from pulling himself up and walking a couple steps hanging onto the coffee table. Then one evening in the middle of the kitchen floor he just stood up by himself and started walking like he had been doing it all along! I just looked at my husband like I thought it was not really happening because my son was not showing any signs of walking by himself. It will happen!

Every baby is at their own pace. its all on their determination to explore thing.s My daughter was crawling by 6 months and trying to pull herself up. by 10.5 months she was starting to walk assisted but then was unassisted. Shes a mover and goer. it all on the determination to explore their surroundings. if they are happy crawling then they are happy. sooner or later they will find out that standing up is a lot easier. Once they start moving there is no resting.

Yes, but did not start fully unassisted walking until right after new years...he was an early roller and crawler but not early walking..I have heard boys take longer, up to 18 months, don't worry because once they start, it really is overnight and never the same again! :-)

Our daughter is 14 and 1/2 months and she REFUSES to walk without help. She's just so hesitant about letting go of whatever she's holding on to. I heard the first steps alone are the hardest, and I can believe it. She's just now getting a little more bold and will occasionally let got with one hand, but she usually stops moving, too. She didn't start crawling until after her first b-day. The hardest part for me is my parents saying how my brother and I both walked at 10 months - like we're keeping her from walking.

Quoting Tracy:

Is your baby walking?

I now everyone says they do it at their own pace, and she walks assisted, but I just wonder how long it will take.

Don't worry Tracy, my daughter only started crawling properly at 11 months and only started walking unassisted last week.  I think they can feel our anxiety and this puts pressure on them.  We stopped asking her to walk and just let her do things without any pressure and literally a week after we stopped asking her to walk she did it on her own.  I was also very worried as all the other children her age were walking already and started a while ago, but they also say that the longer they crawl the better the small muscles in their hands develop which helps them with writing later on, so fear not!

Is she cruising around the furniture yet? Spencer did that first, using the couch and coffee table to walk while he held on. We started making him walk a few steps back and forth between me and my husband, not enough to where he would fall and it would scare him, though, just a few steps on his own. We made a HUGE deal about it, telling him how good he did walking, he was a big boy, etc. He got real excited, and starting wanting to play that "game" all the time. He eventually started doing it on his own. But he didn't start until he was almost 13 months old, and he is almost 15 months now and walks all the time, even running, doesnt crawl anymore. I think his problem was getting his confidence up about the whole walking thing. We didn't think he would ever walk, either. Try playing games with her getting her to do it, and reassure her she is doing a great job at it.

Hi my little boy is not walking unaided yet! He has been cruising round the whole house for months now but just wont go it alone, he will make one step then just dive! lol Im not worried as he does something new every single day and know he will walk alone when he is ready and feels confident! (Just for comparison, he got his first tooth just before he was one and now has six).

Yeah, my 2 girls have different fathers.  My oldest walked late (and so did I) my youngest (my November 2007 baby) walked earlier but so did her dad and most of his family.  I know you're tired of hearing it but they do walk at their own pace.  Barring there being medical complications, just rest assured in the fact they he/she will walk one day because everybody does.  When it gets warm out and they see other kids playing, that is a huge motivator.

my little man started crawling at 8 months, took first unaided steps at 13 months( just before xmas) then 2 weeks into january he was walking fully unaided and now there is no stopping him! my daughter walked around the same time too, there are loads of different theories on development, he has 6 teeth, 4 he got between 9 and 10 months and the other 2 have only just came through over the weekend! another theory is girls talk first and boys walk first, another is that they either talk better or walk better until they all catch up later on, many different theories, but they are just that. each child develops at their own pace and each is different! she will get there, no need to worry!

My daughter is also only walking assisted! She's almost there! getting stronger everyday.. All kids are different as they say.. and all do things in their own time! Does your daughter have teeth? There is a saying that those who get their teeth early, will crawl/walk later.. and those who crawl./walk earlier will get their teeth later! This is the case with my daughter... she started teething at 5 months.. Perhaps their is some truth in it!
