Does anyone sign to their baby currently and how is it going?

i don't do it consistantly, but have tried doing some of the basic signs- milk, all gone, food, drink. He definately recognizes them and is starting to do the sign for milk.

When my 4 year old, Amelia, was younger, we taught her to sign, she knew more, thank you, please, done, and drink. We have been working with my 1 year old, Adam, and he just looks at us like we are crazy. He does "more" once in a while (mainly when HE feels like it). We are going to keep trying though, it seemed to really help Amelia communicate with us when she wasn't able to talk yet.

It looks like you have some great answers and examples for you now! I am not officially trained in ASL but have a deaf friend. We have been signing to our little guy since the beginning. He started to sign right before 7 months. He knew 15 signs by Sept 1st and now signs over 55 signs! He continues to add about 3-5 signs a week and blows us away! Many of them are body parts and animals, which is so much fun when we read books and play! It has also boosted his ability to speak since we say the words with the signs repeatedly. He says them and signs them if he can. I really encourage you to give it a whirl and have a blast with it! There are so many resources now that help with baby sign language. I also think it helps a ton with training with "no touch" and "walk away." We use this regularly at home and in public he understands it fine. We also say "use your signs, use your words" when he fusses and he will then begin to sign to us. It really is amazing to see the results. I have also seen Moms who start and get frustrated early, so hang in there! Be positive and be consistent! You'll love it!

We've been signing with my daughter since about 6 months.

She does more, milk, all done, and change (for a dirty diaper).

She uses more to say she's hungry but it's been great for us. It usually takes a few consistent weeks for any one sign to catch on but she gets super excited when she gets it and I do what she wants.

It's also been a great way to cut down on her just fussing for something, I can ask her to say more and she'll calmly ask me by using her sign every time after that!

Rebecca's daycare taught her "more" but I confuse it with her clapping because she's not very good at touching her fingers together. I think she's decided that a grabbing motion means "gimme" and works just as well...

I do. My son can do; Milk, more, eat, and just last night did daddy. He has also kinda made up some of his own signs for certain things that I have figured out.

I do as well, though he has not used any signs that I can recognize yet, he understands the signs that I use!! It is pretty neet.

I do! Cami is in the simple words like; more, all done, hungry, we're working on thankyou. I have three children and have taught all three signing to help them communicate. It really helps lower the frustration.
