My son started with a sippy around 5 months - not regular drinking, but just letting him explore it and see how it works. He has been completely off bottles for a few months now. I think the best way to transistion is to just offer it every time and then if he rejects the cup, offer him the bottle. Do you give him whole milk yet? My kiddo ADORES milk. He will drink that out of pretty much anything. We also started with trainer type cups - with the rubber nubby. We now use the take and toss sippys - best invention ever!

My daughter is 14 months and I started her on a sippy cup when she was 11-12 months. We actually started giving her water in a small glass first. We only ever gave her milk out of a bottle and everything else was in a cup. Then we just gave her a regular sippy cup with the harder spout. She didn't like to Nubby cups because she couldn't get the drink out fast enough. She went through a phase at 13 months and decided not to drink out of a sippy cup, so I tried a straw, which worked wonderfully. Now she drinks out of a straw or a sippy cup. One thing that was hard but really worked was being consistent and not giving her a bottle. A couple days it was tough but after those first 2 days she was fine.

I tried the Nubby sippy cups with the soft spout at 12 months and they worked very well for my daughter.  They come with two different size spouts to help babies transition. The smaller spout is more like a bottle nipple.  Once my daughter got used to that one, I switched to the larger spout.  She still doesn't like the hard spouts but loves to try and drink out of a regular cup like mommy and daddy.

Hello!  My daughter is 14 months.  I have totally taken her off the bottle.  Initially, I tried the regular sippy cups(with the hard tops) , but she did not do well.  So I found the Nuby brand sippy cup.  The tops are alomst nipple like.  She is doing great with these.  I only use these to put her milk in and use the others for water and juices.  So she becomes acclimated with both. Thus far she is doing well in the transition.  Hope this helps

I put my daughter's milk in a bottle and juice/water in a cup. Show him mummy drinking out of the cup. Your son might not like it because it's new and he doesn't know it's ok. I showed my daughter by drinking from the cup a few times and she would look at me suspiciously then eventually she tried herself. I praised her with what a grown up, clever girl and she seemed to relish on that. You son is just used to his bottle, its like a comfort zone.
