Terrible two's is deceiving...it basically starts when they are around 15 or 16 months...and goes until they are 3 or so...They are learning boundaries now and there is a lot to figure out. My 16 month old likes to scream too...mostly to hear her own voice but also when she is angry or frustrated. Redirection can be a great method of dealing with it...I like the "use your words" idea for babies that HAVE their words (sigh, #2 doesn't...#1 was talking more than this at 10 months and by 16 months was using sentences and 2 or 3 syllable words.) Hang in there momma...next month it will be something else...LOL!

I don't have any advice as to how to make it stop, but yes, my daughter does the same thing. She loves to scream. It's one of her ways of communicating that she wants something that she doesn't have, can't reach, that we are getting too slowly, etc. I agree, it's not a great development.

My son is also screaming a lot lately. He will be 16 months on the 7th. He says a lot of words but he just starts screaming. Most of the time he's not even screaming over anything....just walking around screaming and screeching...i think he just wants to hear himself. My cousins son is also 15 months and he's been screaming too. When my son isn't happy with something he's been throwing tantrums lately. I just explain to him why he can't have what he wants...or whatever he's throwing a fit over and I try to distract him with something else. Usually this works, but if it doesnt then i just let him throw a fit and ignore it and he stops.

Hi! Is she saying any words yet?? My son says about a handful of words, so when he is screaming, I tell him to please use his words. Even if it's not the "right" word I will take anything except screaming. For example....at the store today, he was screaming his head off, I stopped the cart and said "please stop yelling and use your words." He said "her dada" didn't really make sense, but he calmed down and I was able to distract him with a book I had in the diaper bag. Hope this helps :)
