My Wes has peed on the floor 4 times now ... he just watches it come out, then runs away laughing!!!

my baby is also 17 months and my husband is also deployed, we tried potty traning about 2monhts back because she showed interest such as saying "pee pee" as she went in her diaper and potty for the potty i got her. we tried and i guess she thinks its her toy so she refuses to go in it. she'll go on the floor next to it but now in it. she'll sit on it but thats it. i also need help. lol

We aren't rushing potty training, but we did purchase a little potty for the bathroom for Wes, that's just sitting there for him. We put him on it in the mornings ... he hasn't peed yet, but I just don't want him to be afraid of it. Good luck!

It was my pleasure. I love talking about motherhood and children! I wish I had something like this site when I first became a mother. Wow, lots of information. I just wish that someone would have told me that having five children really meant you were going to have to feed 10 (all their friends too). I'm going to start claiming some of these extra children on my taxes. lol

Thelma, I can see it now... Lauren will be the last to give up the bottle in her preschool class because her mother doesn't want her to go up too fast. LOL

Jena, my suggestion as a mother of 5 is M&Ms, books and dancing. I started each of my children by keeping a potty chair available in the restroom months before formally introducing it to them. This allows them to get familiar with it. Once I saw an interest growing I would formally introduce my toddler to the potty. I would try to pick two or three times a day to sit them on the seat for a few minutes. I liked to do this early morning, after nap and before bed time or after meals. I never tried to rush it or show frustration when they didn’t want to sit more than a few seconds. When the day came that he or she used the potty for the first time it was an instant party around the house. We would clap and dance and sing “the potty song” after each event. Onlookers would have thought we won the lottery. I would also give my toddler one M&M for using #1 and two M&Ms for using #2 (try to use M&Ms for potty training only during this time so he or she sees it as a reward). This was a great training tool. I wish you the best of luck. I will be entering this phase again soon with my youngest. I’m dragging my feet this time because she is my baby and the last.

This is a much debated subject on many other communities! The only thing I could say, Jena is: Just don't rush it!!! Let it come natural, make it fun by playing games there and reading a story, etc. Just let it flow! I will need to follow in your foot steps one of these days. My little one its not showing interest at all, so I could start even by 2. Have patience and always smile if something happened. Good luck girl!
