My baby girl only sleeps during the day for very short periods of time, the longest she will sleep is 1 hour and then awake for 2-3 hours at a time. It is my first child so i am not sure what is normal and what is not, but according to the books she should be sleeping longer. For the last week at night she goes down at about 6.30 and wakes anytime between 10.30 and 12. for a feed and then again anytime from 4. I am not complaining as she was colliky from 2 weeks and seems to have just got over it. Should I worry about her not sleeping during the day?

You will find as babies get older they will sleep less during the day some needing 2-3 hrs others needing more. I would not worry too much like the lady said above you know your baby and they know when they are tired/hungry

Hi Kim and Crystal.congrats on your little miracles and thanks for the replies. She is very alert and happy when awake, but sometimes she is so exhausted and niggly but refuses to sleep. She is now actually such a good baby. She had colic from 2 weeks old, so she did not sleep much at all in the begining but she now seems to be over it, which I am so greatful for.

I agree, if she is happy to be awake and not grizzly thats fine, my first son was a cat napper and rearely slept during the day but was happy to, Toby is 10wks and still can only be awake for 2hrs at the most then he needs to go to sleep. :) you know whats best for your baby trust your instincts

Hi Charlene,

I am a first time mom too of a baby girl! She only sleeps for short periods of time too! I think that when they are tired, they will sleep. As long as she is alert and happy while she's awake.. I wouldn't make her sleep! Thats just my opinion.
