What is your best type of diaper rash cream? I have used all different kinds, but I need to know what is the best out there.

I don't know if you'll have it there but we use an anti-fungal cream called canestan, and it clears right up.

CORNFLOUR! Sudocream is good too but the area needs to keep as dry as possible and the cornflour soaks up the moisture! J & J make a form of this in a powder or you can just buy plain cornflour and dust it on!!!

Desitin creamy or Balmex work good, but the best is Triple Paste!! I'm actually a pharmacist and I recommend it all the time to my patients.Good luck!

I really like the Target brand of desitin. I had a problem recently with my sons poor bottom being the color of a fire engine. I found out that it was not his diaper cream not working, it was the diapers I was using. I have heard this from several girlfriends also, that they discovered the diapers were causing the rash. I found pampers cruisers work the best on my son. With Luvs, when he is wet his is literally wet from front to back, where are pampers pull the wetness straight to the front. The way the Luvs absorb is what was causing the reaction. Good luck! :)

The absolute best cream is Eucerin - Aquaphor!! - It clears the rash up within the day. It is the most amazing stuff. It is about $14.00 for the large jar but it will last the lifetime of diaper rashes. It is also great on dry skin....hope this helps...

I used A&D ointment on my two older children. It worked great. I even got to where the smell of it reminded me of babies and I like the smell of it. My newest little on however is very fair skinned and nothing seemed to work on him. I've been doing a lot of research on our common every day house hold products lately and it was brought to my attention that certain popular baby bath products manufactured by a very big company that I will not name here, actually puts formaldehyde in the baby shampoo!!! You won't find the word formaldehyde on the bottle but you will find Quaternium-15. Formaldehyde is a terrible skin irritant especially for babies! No wonder babies get diaper rash and cradle cap and all kinds of other funky rashes when they're really small. I have switched where I shop for all of my house hold products. I use a lotion on all of my children now called Renew. It clears up any redness or rashes in my little ones diaper area with one application. The older kids love it because it absorbs very quickly and doesn't leave them feeling "sticky". Besides the Renew I've also switched our laundry products, all of our bath and body products and all of our cleaning products. All of the new products are non-toxic, environmentally friendly, and save me money! It's really scary what is in grocery store products!!!

Hi Shonda,
My son who's a year and a month old has always had sensitive skin and gets a nappy rash very easily. The best i've found is Ederma though i dont know if you get it where u live. When it was really bad doctor also suggested that ONCE i day i apply canestan, either red or blue). However i found that even without canestan, when it was really bad a good coating of ederma did the trick. Try to keep his nappy a bit loose when he has a rash as it helps.
good luck!

HI ya. It seems as though everyone has a favourite so I thought Id add my bit. My identical twin girls just had a bad case of diarreah that lasted a week and therefore we had the worst nappy rash problems and let me tell you I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING (in South Australia at least!!) Go for anything with castor or cod liver oil in it. I also agree with the antifungal as they work good too. One tip I heard was to mix mylanta antacid liquid with cornflour (or cornstarch) until a paste and then put that on with vaseline over the top! Worked a treat! And let ma also add that everyone thinks that their baby has a 'severe' case of nappy rash but I had 2 babies with blistering bleeding skin it was so bad and this still worked. Good luck!

If it is prickly red dots, use athletes foot cream, along with a barrier like vaseline or aquaphor.
Good Luck with the little tushie!

Hi Shonda, I have a 13 month old baby girl, she never had a diaper rash until recently, we actually don't use any cream unless strictly necessary (A&D) my doctor told us it's very commom for toddlers to get a diaper rash when they're teething, which seemed to be my case, I stopped using wipes for a while and replaed them with cotton soaked in water and tried to leave her without the diaper for as long as possible.
Hope this works for you too!

Hi Mommies, I have a Nov bb girl. She's currently have yeast infection nappy rash for almost 8 days and still on Fungicort cream. Due to the rash, we wrap her on cloth diaper instead of disposable diaper. To our surprise, she pees almost every 5 mins. Is this usual for 1 year old bb girl? How often does your bb pee within an hour?

I don't use a diaper cream as some of them contain some really nasty chemicals (check out a website called skin deep: cosmetic safety database). Instead I use a spray called Enviromist by an Australian company called Nature Direct. I have used this on my daughter on a number of occasions for both regular diaper rash and diaper rash caused by thrush (candida). It has cleared both up really fast and I have peace of mind knowing that I am not putting chemicals on my babies skin. You cant buy this in a shop but they have a website with a 1800 number. I hope you find one that works!

My Josh developed a severe case of nappy rash, the skin was raised and an angry red. We took him to the dr and she gave us a cream called trimporin(sp?). It made it so much worse that I cried! His skin was cracking and bleeding. We stopped using it straight away and started using sudocrem and I've never seen such fast results! I highly reccommend it!

I tried Butt Paste and it made my little guy scream in pain. I like Desitin Clear to prevent and for minor rashes but when it gets really bad I use ILEX. It is special order so I just get it through the internet. When my son had Salmonellae, the hospital had us use this. They said if it didn't work there was a prescription one called pentibutt or pedibutt they could try. The ILEX was a huge success though. It is very sticky so we have to put Aquafore over the top of it so his cheeks don't stick together or to the diaper. My son seems to have sensitive and dry skin. Right now he is cutting teeth, too.
There is nothing worse then seeing a fire engine red rash on most of the bottom and your baby is screaming when water touches it.

I like Butt Cream [yes, that's really what it's called!] - it has a higher concentration of zink oxide than most creams so it helps to clear rashes up faster. Not only that, but it also goes on really smooth and smells good - which makes it less of a hastle.

Honestly, it all depends on the kid. I have 4 and A&D worked wonders on my son as well as just plain corn starch and air drying. WIth my eldest daughter is was Desitin CREAMY, then with my middle girl it was plain old Desitin and with the baby it seems to be the Lansinoh Diaper Cream. LOL!! My best friend swears by Beaudroux's Butt Cream. I agree withNancy about airing them out as best and as often as possible, that is what really helps. Triple paste, unfortunately, actually caused a burn on my one daughter's bum and I will never use that again:( Our ped had to prescribe an actual burn cream to heal her bottom, poor baby. It was probably just some freak incident, but they do have a money back guarantee so I got my money back thankfully cause it paid for the prescription burn cream to heal her. LOL!

Hi, this is what works for my daughter & she's never had a diaper rash since. At almost every diaper change (unless we're out), I always get a small bucket of warm water, soak the wipes in the water, ring it out, and then clean her bottom with it. Then I dry her bottom up with a kleenex and then use Zincofax extra-strength. Works every time!! Good luck!! :)

We did the same as Heather, my son had a rash for nearly 2 weeks, almost gone after one and then one day it got bad again. I use the A&D ointment, which smells really medicinal with powder or corn starch over it. The powder keeps the butt from sticking to the diaper. It looks a world better after one day. We were using Desitin but the ped said it had nothing in it to clear up a rash, only prevent it. Also rinse all the alcohol out of the wipes or use a damp rag and blow it dry. The blowing takes away the sting like when you blow on a burn. And oatmeal baths are awesome. Our rash is only gone as of today. I hope yours goes away soon.

I just went to the pharmacist today for help with my daughter's diaper rash. They gave me two creams (either mix together or put on one after the other) that are sold over the counter. One is a hydracortisone and the other is a cream for jock itch/ring worm etc. The second one is an anti-fungal. I can't remember the proper name. The pharmacist said that if the diaper rash is lasting a week plus then it's usually fungal and needs to be treated with the anti-fungal cream.
And FYI, the creams that the pharmacist gave are exactly the creams that would be prescribed by my doctor but only it would be mixed together. So I can treat her rash and save myself a trip the doctor or clinic and risk getting sick with everything that's going around.
Hope that helps!

We use A&D ointment, if it gets too bad we also put on powder. We only had to do the later because she had a stomach virus and had a lot of diaper changes that day. Her poor little bottom couldn't take it. :( Using both worked for us

Hi Shonda,
I can't help with the nappy rash cream as i'm in the UK and i'm not sure if we have any of the same creams. However, i just thought i'd mention that my son has recently had nappy (diaper) thrush. At first i thought it was nappy rash but it wouldn't go away with all the creams i used so i took him to the doctor. The doctor wasn't great but after 5 visits and 5 different creams we have finally (touch wood) got rid of it.
Anyway, my point is that maybe you should go to your doctor and find out if it is nappy rash or maybe nappy thrush??
Feel free to message me if you want. Good luck xx

We use Triple Paste, and that's what our dr recommended too.
But if this helps, we had really bad diaper rash problems in the beginning, and more than any diaper rash cream, the only thing that really worked was having him air out with no diaper as long as possible at every diaper change. This was really hard and took some practice to do it without him making a mess while the diaper was off, but it always worked.
Good luck!
